Stealth Cam DS4K Infrared Camera HD

I got my first stealth cam trail cam in 2009 and it’s amazing how the technology has evolved. Being able to take still photos and videos at the same time is my favorite feature. The picture and video quality is great both day and night, and the audio is unbelievably clear and picks up sounds from quite a distance as well.

Stealth Cam Dual Sensor STC-DS4K Camera 30 Megapixel/4K Ultra HD VideoI’m not a power user so just a few comments.Been using the DS4K for about six months now and the video quality is definitely better than my 3 other G45NG stealth cams.Remember that lithium batteries are usually recommended for cameras like this and it takes 12.When the sensor is set to extended range it will shoot at the least provocation and you end up with an all-day video of leaves blowing in the breeze. (Common to most trail cams)Would like to see the price a little lower. I might buy a second.

Shipping came very quick. A day early actually. The camera works amazingly and flawless. Of the packaging was undamaged. Overall super happy with the product

"Wake up" time unbelievably slow, upwards of 5 minutes and sometimes never at all. I have tried dozens of setting combinations and between them there is no correlation to the time it takes to fire up and take a picture. It caught 1 coyote walking by which is acceptable. However, I have images of 6 deer on a block, but nothing of them walking in nor walking away; their tracks indicated they came/went directly in line with the camera in broad daylight, this has happened on multiple occasions. I was out working in front of the camera for 15-20 minutes during the day at varying distances in and out of a truck milling around and not one picture was taken... but strangely enough there were pictures of deer on either end of my work doing deer things. Never has captured a night image of animals. Returned.Gets 2 stars because it does have good quality images, but I couldn't trust it to actually capture anything.

The picture quality is great, same for the short 10 second movie clips. However the ability to capture frames of movement is terrible. I thought I was missing a lot of animal movement so I bought another cheap $40.00 trail cam and set them on the same stand. Pictures quality was nowhere near as nice. However it captures at least 5 times as many photos when wild life is in range (raccoons, fox, hurons, hawks even chipmunks and rats).I have tried all 3 and custom settings, moved them and switched positions of the two. This Stealth Cam is nowhere near as good a capturing smaller wildlife and number of pictures as they interact with the surroundings.

Excellent pictures, videos and audio

Three stars because I'm undecided. However, here's my first day issues. Think the PIR sensor is funky. Set up the cam in my back yard (daytime). When I cam back to see it, there was a squirrel at about center of the FOV but, the cam didn't trigger. So I set the PIR to Extended Distance and did some walk by tests, cam pointing at 40 ft. I had one series of walk-by's were the cam triggered almost immediately. However, most times, there was a 10-15 second delay. Have to say, I'm changing the cam position slightly between sets of walk-by's and, am not using the test light for sensor positioning but, just using line of site. Clearly the sensor is not very forgiving. I'll try another set up with accurate position and test mode light. If I can't resolve the delay issue, this cam is history. Otherwise, 4k resolution is good but, color rendition is poor. However, I am using a wide spectrum monitor calibrated for Adobe Pro Photo not sRGB.August 5th - Did some more testing, me mowing my loan. The cam worked flawlessly. However, after I stopped mowing I did one more walk by and the cam didn't turn on at all. So, it works if something throws as much heat as a lawnmower but, not the average human body. Additionally, the cam will not embed the date and time in files. If I continue to search for a new cam, I might be inclined to buy one where people say its too sensitive but, can be dialed down.

This was a fantastic buy. I highly recommend spending the extra little bit of money. I have not taken any photos of wild life yet but as soon as I received the camera I went through all the settings and tested out both the photo quality, video and microphone, and also the range. I currently have this camera out and I’m hoping to capture some nice photos of deer and elk!

Bought two of these, both seemed to have problems with subjects approaching from the right hand side and by the time the PIR had gone off it was too late. Had to return one to Amazon as it just stopped working and was completely dead. The audio and video quality was great when working, maybe I just got unlucky with the faulty unit. 10/10 to Amazon for a hassle free return

The Stealthcam DS4K arrived a day early and in excellent condition.From first appearances, it seems to be a rugged unit albeit somewhat simpler than the last two Spypoint cameras I bought. No view screen and user friendly menus. However, all of that high tech means nothing if the camera doesn't work, which was the case with the Spypoint 10 and 11D. Both failed within months of ownership.What I've noticed so far with this DS4k is that anything coming into the trigger range from the left tends to be delayed compared to anything coming from the right. From a distance of about 50 ft. the camera only catches the tail end of the movement on video. Seems to trigger only as the subject is leaving the field of view. Accordingly, I've adjusted the view angle to be more to the left to see if that will compensate.Another aspect worth noting is that 4K video is only shot at 15 frames per second, which kind of defeats the purpose of 4k. Why have all that resolution when the end product will be jerky on playback? I don't use the camera in 4K. I use 2560x1440 which provide plenty of clarity and definition. That resolution is capture at 24 fps and the video playback is very good.The Stealthcam also has much better picture and video quality than the Spypoint cameras. Night pics are excellent albeit only in shades of grey, which is pretty much standard. Too early to say how long the DS4K will last? Certainly hope it's much better than the last two duds.Will be leaving the camera out all winter to see how it performs up here in Canada. Will provide follow up report next year some time.

Does the job. It is truly hard to see as there are no red IR lights, hence the 4 stars. The problem with these kind of cameras remains that you cannot aim it while looking at the LED screen, as the screen is obstructed by the object you strapping it to....
