Fantastic! Works splendidly with the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display.
The Kanex XD HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Converter for 27 inch iMac  allows the user to successfully connect a HDMI equipped source such as a laptop to the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. While this nifty Kanex device is advertised for the 27" iMac it has absolutely no trouble with the 24" LED display. Yes, the Kanex is the proverbial missing piece. There is but one caveat -- the 24" LED Cinema Display ONLY accepts a resolution of 1920 x 1200. If your source is not capable of outputting this resolution, then this adapter is not the problem. Your source is the problem. My search began several months prior to this review and my goal was simple -- find a device or adapter which will convert video signal from HDMI to Mini Displayport. At least, I thought this was a simple goal. There is a considerable amount of misinformation out there, as there always is, regarding the correct hardware, software or adapters (yes, plural) required to make this absolutely gorgeous display work outside of its native environment. Well, the search ends here and the answer is the Kanex XD. The following is a brief description of the hardware and software I am currently using so that you may reference your setup to my own:Computer: 17" HP Laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bitDisplay Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 SeriesAvailable Video Outputs: HDMI (female), VGA (female)Display: Apple 24" LED Cinema DisplayScreen Resolution: 1920 x 1200Finally, I would like to point out that Windows automatically recognizes most of the additional features the display offers including a 3-port USB hub, USB audio for the built in speaker(s), microphone and iSight camera. However, the ability to adjust the brightness of the monitor is not inherently present. Some users may find a nuisance, while others may not care at all. I am of the former and I will edit my review once I have the OS X Snow Leopard Boot Camp drivers fully installed and have working brightness controls. Until then, thank you for reading my review! :)

No sir. Not good.
Ok. I purchased my Kanex XD mid-December of last year. It has now not been working since the 10th of January, and is the 19th. I have done everything I can to get it to work. I've replaced cables, set the settings using another HDMI TV and tried replugging it back in with the factory directions. No dice. There are two blue LED lights, one of which indicates power and is on. The other indicating connection, which hasn't flickered since the 13th.At first it was great, I can look past the 720p limitation, not Kanex's fault, you see. The idea and everything behind this product is wonderful. The problem may not even be with the actual machine, who knows? Not I, for I cannot get in touch with the Kanex company. Their e-mail system doesn't seem to actually work and they have no phone number on their website. Seems to me like they're dodging complaining customers who dropped way too many bones on this gadget for it not to work properly. If you're only using it for a day, then it's a five star. Any more, you'll see that it's the biggest waste of money you've spent. I am severely dissatisfied with the company's tech support and wish them all an ill demise.

Worth every penny...
So the Kanex XD is pretty awesome, it's exactly what I was looking for. I can now connect my PS3 into my iMac and watch movies and play games effortlessly. There are a couple reasons why I chose this product over the leading competitor the Belkin AV360. First off, price. I was able to snag this off Amazon for much less then the AV360. Also, in terms of design, I love the way this device looks and the lights on the sides much more then the Belkin. I also chose the Kanex because it came with a gold plated HDMI cable. Unfortunately, it's a bit short for me, but I do appreciate the HDMI cable included. Other than that, the two products serve the exact same purpose, connecting an HDMI device into your iMac 27". I've had no problems setting it up, as well as no lag. Picture quality is good. And this has been bothering me so much, no matter what HDMI adapter you get, THE IMAC WILL ONLY SUPPORT 720P. This isn't because of the Kanex XD or the Belkin AV360, it is because the iMac can only accept 720p signals through the mini display port. Until Apple updates their software, users are stuck with 720p. Once they do make the switch, this device would be able to support the 1080p signals giving you the FULL HD experience. So, while others are complaining that this device only transmits 720p signals they are completely wrong. It's Apples fault, not Kanexs. I also tried connecting the Kanex to my friends 21.5" iMac,and unfortunately it did not work. Just in case anyone was wondering. Hope this helps anyone's decision! I definitely recommend this product to any iMac 27" user. Thanks!

Check the small print, and it works just great!
I'd had concerns having read mixed reviews for this item re: connectivity / compatibility. I'd tried to do my homework to make sure it was the right piece of kit- given that its quite a bit of money. I run a mid 2010 27" iMac- which i gather is the critical factor with this item. Plugged in, and hew presto: it ran with my ps4 purchase straight away (cmd & F2). For info, my mac is running the latest os too (el captain I think), so no probs there. Very impressed. And the quality of the gaming far surpasses anything available on the app store. 720p is absolutely fine definition for the 27" screen too.
