wooooooooooow
wow!! loved these series. They couldn't have been any better... it was around 8 years ago when I read Kane & Abel & it's been my top favorite ever since then. I remember how it hooked me up from the very first page, & that I couldn't put it down to the extent that I was reading it while walking in the corridors of my university.. & it was such an honorable moment when I was invited by my dear friend to enjoy a pleasurable conversation between Jeffery Archer & Anthony Horowitz. The conversation took place at InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City, and was organized by Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. It was last Friday when that conversation made me love Kane & Abel even more.. & fall in love with the 72 years old man of wit and charisma :p I highly recommend reading the book first...

Kane and Abel-Bravo.
I have always liked Sam Neill and Peter Strauss and this DVD of Kane and Abel fulfilled all my expectations. The acting was superb. The film was quite faithful to the book by Jeffrey Archer and for a telemovie of its time was very well done. A very touching scene by Peter Strauss as Abel when he at last met his grandson brought me to tears. Kudos to Amazon for allowing me to finally get this DVD for my viewing pleasure.Regards Len

Disappointing
I have seen this on tv many years ago and I loved it back then and then I read the book several times and that was even better! So when it finally came out on dvd I had to order it and see it again and to be honest: I'm a bit disappointed! Its like I'm missing whole parts like WW2 and so much more! Qualitiy is not that great either. I think its a lot of money for only 2 dvds of not so good quality.

If you want to solve the PAL and Region problem may I suggest the purchase of the following item on Amazon."Toshiba HDMI 1080p All Multi Region Code Free Player. Plays PAL or NTSC DVD & VCD From All Regions (0-6) - High Definition". I purchased this item on Amazon for $53.65 and it will play Kane and Able, and anything else you put in.Well worth the money, and you can buy any DVD you want to, NTSC/PAL Region 0-6

The DVD stops eventually, but so far we have managed to watch the movie.
The box was broken because when they delivered the package, they slipped it under the door and it broke. The DVD has some kind of problem becasuse the image freezes every now and then and sometimes it is hard to make it continue. So far we have been able to watch the movie, even with this interruptions.

An 80's gem. Great story, great acting. Worth getting the multi-region DVD by Sony. Btw, no subtitles.

Great
It was great watching this wonderful TV Serial DVDs of Jeffery Archer's most well known book. Every moment is breath taking as the story unfolds. I could not switch off untill I had seen both the DVDs just as I could not put down the book from begining to end. The quality of the DVDs was perfect.

Great series: loved it!
We were finally able to watch this great series by buying a Sadmsung multi region DVD player. I had read the novel when it was first published so it was wonderful to see it on DVD. A great story by one of the world's great storytellers Jeffrey Archer. Peter Strauss is amazing. Loved it!

Kane and Abel
Not as good as the book but very enjoyable nonetheless. Apart from the 2nd World War, which lasted about 15 seconds! Actually this was a crucial part of the story because Abel saved Kane’s life, although neither of them realised it. It was a shame that this was skipped over as it made the ending of the story a lot more poignant.

Good story - dated production and image quality
I remember watching this as an original TV series having previously read the book, and was looking forward to re-watching over a couple of cold winter nights. But, oh how times have changed! The story is still a good one and would probably benefit from a modern remake. However, the picture quality was disappointing (did we really watch TV with such poor image quality?) and some of the production values are rather antiquated.Given that it's still worth a watch.

Really good story line
I love this film and would recommend it to anyone. Basically it is a story about a poor boy made good and a wealthy boy who had everything. The feud between these two men followed them throughout their lives and in the end one finds out that they could have been friends as a misunderstanding lead to them trying to cause financial ruin to each other when in fact.............don't want to spoil it for anyone by telling you everything. You will have to watch it. I am sure you will love it.

If you enjoyed the book, you will enjoy this DVD
Not as good as the book, but OK for something to watch. Well worth the money if you have read the book. I would estimate it follows the book around 90+%. The picture is widescreen, not the old TV square box (4:3). Quality is that of 1980/90'S TV, certainly not in HD TV, but fine. For the actors playing Kane & Able around the 20's age, they could have used other younger actors, but again, it was fine. The special effects show how far we have come since the making of this DVD.If you enjoyed the book, its worth watching this DVD.

Read the book first then watch the video,
Nothing to dislike the video is excellent.Colour and clarity while not up to todays standard are still very good.
