Scarface...
This 1983 Brain De Palma production which was a re-make of film noire from 1932 directed by Howard Hawks which was shot in black and white and only ran for 93 minutes the De Palma vision which has a script written by Oliver Stone is epic and Shakespearean in its sprawling running time which for its cinema release run for 170 minutes here for this 2004 DVD release is short of that by 6 minutes. The re-tooled version of the story by Stone is legendary for its violent content and its use of profanity; Al Pacino heads up the excellent cast playing Tony Montana the Cuban refugee who through force of will creates a cocaine empire in 80's Florida and delivers one of the key performances of his early career that shows the darker side of the American dream and in doing so alongside De Palma and Stone bring to the audience a story of the American underworld that since it was made has been referenced and copied by other film and T.V. makers. This DVD is presented in 2.35.1 aspect and the original 4 track stereo of the cinema release has been up-graded to 5.1 surround sound I found some of the internal shots a little grainy which for a film of this importance was disappointing, I think a frame by frame restoration as was done for the "The Godfather" trilogy is called for.

Stunning release
I bought the film vault limited edition 4K set and it’s quite possibly the best set I’ve bought and it comes with Tony’s green card which for a movie collector is seriously cool

Say hello to my Blu-ray remastered on 4K friend!!
When I did purchase the 2-disc set of Scarface (1983) and the original 1932 version from the United States several years ago on BD I wasn't very much impressed with the A/V quality of Scarface (1983) and didn't think that there were many extras. Now though as Universal have released Scarface (1983) on a single disc BD fully restored and remastered in 4K not 4KUHD I'm very Impressed with the outcome and the quality of the picture and sound is very good indeed, the main improvement over the other disc is the sound, it's a DTS HD MASTR 7.1 track which is a lot better in terms of every sound is heard weather it's from the foreground or background, the dialogue is more clear as there no problems with hiss, although as this was the same audio track on the other disc there were no problems with that disc it's just that disc wasn't remastered in 4K! The picture is very good especially red colours and the end shootout is stunning, there's a few very, very dark bits though but NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE Film, Universal have done a grand job in cleaning up this masterpiece as it looks very sharp and clean. The Film is one of the greatest Gangster movies ever made with fantastic acting from all actors and actresses especially Al Pacino's performance as Tony Montana, a foul mouthed, coke snorting, angry, wannabe gangster who wants to rule the world.Problem though is that he angers other Gangsters in the movie especially Mr Soza and a bloody battle between the pair of them takes place, as a Gangster movie it's got very strong swear words and strong graphic violence of which all of the stars are bad people there's no good people here of which a Gangster movie is all about. Written by Oliver Stone of whom should of directed this Film, the directing went to Brian De Palma who pulled it off, the end result is one exciting and entertaining Gangster movies. The special features on the disc are small and I've seen them on the other disc, although the only new extra is a 35th year reunion discussion since it's release,I would like to at least see Universal try and see if there's any audio commentaries from director - Brian De Palma, Actor Al Pacino and writer Oliver Stone but there is none as it would be good to hear from these main players who made the Film, and there should be a more candid look into the Film in a feature length documentary of the production but never mind.Very good 4K transfer Universal with improved picture and sound, a great classic and violent Gangster movie with top notch performances from all actors and actresses, ther could of been a few more special features though, although I recommend this new Blu-ray dis remastered in 4K!

Universal did a great job bravo.
The new transfer for the 2019 bluray of Scarface is sensational! The films now looks intense, sharp and clean. Clean up is comprehensive. (There were literally two black specks in the whole run time.) Colours are very strong indeed. Reds especially pop, even a little too much. The 7.1 sound is also strong. Dialogue was clear. Synths sounded great.Very dark night scenes tend to suffer a little, the only downside. The final shootout is now beautifully intense; reds just seep and bleed into a fantastic captivating finale of complete carnage, almost psychedelic. I can happily say this new restoration is a joy to behold and makes me appreciate all the more this marvelous, macabre masterpiece as De Palma originally intended it to look and feel. Don't hesitate to buy, Universal did a great job bravo.
