Hello, and thank you for reaching out! This product can be cut down in height, but there are a couple of things you'll want to keep in mind if doing so. The posts are made of sturdy metal, so you will need a saw capable of cutting these posts. Whether you cut from the top or the bottom, you will most likely end up removing a pre-drilled hole. Be sure to account for this, and redrill new holes as needed. Last but not least, it may be worthwhile measuring the boards out to the height you want it to be as you wouldn't want to cut it to a height incompatible with the boards!
