The Illy Dark Roast is much stronger than the Medium roast. Good for use in espressos or cappucinos. Tastes quite bitter but good if you need a pick-me-up. My folks love this roast but I prefer the Medium roast so your mileage may vary.Pros:+ Dark, strong, bitter taste.+ Cheap if you buy it at 5 pounds per 250g can. Note that price hovers around 5 - 6.5 pounds.+ Comes in a neat tin can.Cons:- Bitter taste may not be liked by all.- Sometimes it loses taste over long periods. I guess it's a fuller flavour and aroma.We have one of the Nespresso pod machines (domestic version) with a variety of different coloured pods but I still prefer the Illy Dark. I think it probably works out more economical too. FWIW, I think the Illy is not as dark and bitter as the Nespresso Ristretto (black) pods.I also make it in a small flask and take it to the office, because it's cheaper and maybe even more convenient than buying espressos, but of course you lose out on the freshness.Ocado recently stopped stocking it so I bought some from Amazon who were efficient as usual; I've just ordered some more. I bought a De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker for $99.99 on Amazon. It is very easy to use and was easy on my wallet. I use the 2 Tbs filter and tamp the ground espresso with a solid and weighty Espresso Tamper - 50/55 mm. The tamper weight does all the work of packing the grounds correctly in the filter. The espresso shots I make have looked and tasted wonderful. The problem might be as simple as 1. Thoroughly cleaning and descaling the espresso machine. 2. You might need to buy a new filter. 3.
