Great addition to an FT-818
After paying $177 to repair/replace a broken power connector in my FT-818ND, I picked up one of these - fits well and a good addition for portable use. Hopefully will never need another repair.

Perfect on FT-818ND
This is great for the FT-818ND. Another reviewer recommended adding the 3M double sided foam pad between the adapter and the radio's back side and it works perfectly. It fights snug and there isn't any wiggle room as mentioned by other reviewers. I can easily add the power connectors and use the rear SO-239 antenna connector. I found out last week that the radio prefers to use the front BNC connector and has to constantly power a relay to use the rear antenna connector. So the FT-818ND will use a little less power if you use the BNC connector in the front versus the rear SO-239. This also eliminates any cable management problems if your using this adapter.Highly recommend this adapter it makes the power connector nice and snug with no worry of it falling out.

good but has some issues
Yaesu should never have put the small barrel connector for power there. This power adapter is a good attempt at a fix, but it has some issues.1. The ground screw is now inaccessible.2. Now it gets very crowded when you have things plugged into the ports on the back.3. There is a gap between the enclosure and the back of the radio that probably should not be there. It will not take much to damage the power connector.Regarding No. 3, You could fill the gap with something rigid to keep the enclosure rigid against the rear of the transceiver. Originally, I used a cut piece of plastic sheet with double-sided tape. However, the transmitter finals use this area as a heat sink (just on the opposite side of the casting). So, now I use a piece of metal.Yaesu should have fixed this whole area with the FT-818ND, but opted to leave it a freakin' mess. Especially now that the transmitter can do 6W (that heat needs to go somewhere, and with those always-transmitting digital modes...).
