Great print quality, no Linux drivers, failed in 1st year, replacement also failed after little use.
According to canon, users of pro printers don't use Linux. Fortunately, Turboprint do a driver (free for limited use, after that not expensive anyway) which is better than the Canon one for Windows.Print quality is incredibly good and it really shines on monochrome. Happily prints on almost any paper although ink saturation needs to be watched on some - which is fair enough. I've been using it with refilled cartridges as the cost of the Canon ones is eye-watering and I would never have bought the printer if I had had to use them. I bought a kit to refill them myself and although it's a bit of a nuisance, with a bit of practice it's quick and easy. It's surprisingly quiet! I have seen reviews of it using gallons of ink to clean heads and doing so frequently. I presume this must have been early models as neither of mine have done this. The first printer was hardly used the first year we had it and then it failed. Amazon exchanged it for a new one! This new one has printed no more than a few hundred pages, mostly A4 and few of them photos... and the print head has failed, just outside the warranty period. Given the cost of repairs - about half the cost of the printer it seems - I'm junking it. I shan't buy another Canon printer, so it's back to Epson - at least my old 1290 lasted 5 years and a few thousand pages, also on refilled cartridges.

First Class Canon Printer
This comes in a big box and weighs 25kg, would recommend carrying and opening with a friend. The printer itself is in a excellent plastic bag that enables you to lift the printer with integrated handles. Once out of the box and removed from the plastic bag, it’s time to remove all the packing materials and blue tape. I would recommend you visiting the Canon website and there are some clear and concise videos that covers setup. Once all the packing is removed (double check) it’s time to power the printer for the first time. The printer head is not installed in the printer it’s supplied in a sealed antistatic bag. When you turn on the printer the ink carriage will center it’s self, you need to lift the arm on the right side giving access to the print head location. Carefully remove the print head from the bag, holding it by its sides, remove the orange cover being careful not to touch the print head on the bottom (there maybe some liquid in the printhead, this is normal) Once installed it’s time to install the 10 ink cartridges. Setup is straight forward from here onwards. A test print and auto head calibration is completed first and install the drivers (on a Mac don’t let the OS install the driver, do it manually) if you have Photoshop and/or lightroom it’s time to install Canon Print Pro plug-in, this makes printing a breeze. Insure your monitor is calibrated before you print, remember the printer can only print the data you send to it, if you monitor is off calibration you prints will reflect this.As for the quality of the prints they are outstanding, no other word for it. I can honestly 100% recommend the printer for a enthusiast photographer or pro photographer, buy with confidence.

Great printer customer support rubbish
I had problems with this printer from the off hardly surprising seeing it dragged across the road by the Amazon delivery driver. The seller wanted me to put it back in the post for repair in Manchester. Not a chance. I organized the repair myself at my own cost. If I could leave zero stars for the seller and their support I would.

Get the proper Printer Driver for your iMac
I have had this two years, and it has been two years of frustration. Having colour balanced the screen and the printer literally multiple times, the monitor with two different systems, I just simply could not get anything like a colour match from the printer. Then I read in the comments below that you should not let the Mac select the printer driver, and instead download the printer driver direct from Canon. That, and dimming the screen of my iMac to a little under half brightness, has delivered colour matches that are magical. Perhaps I am stupid and did not read the instructions properly. Perhaps it is because I replaced my iMac and assumed the drivers would all be copied over. Perhaps it is because you have to update the driver with every release of the Apple operating system. Whatever, I recommend making sure your driver matches the operating system any time you make such a change, or you will spill gallons of wasted ink and ruin reams of expensive Pro paper like I did. I hope this comment saves someone somewhere some grief.

Extremely disappointed and annoyed with this printer and Canon in general
Extremely disappointed and annoyed with this printer and Canon in general. Printer head stopped working after 10 months, not printing from the colour side at all and after a while from black side as well. I've tried all cleaning options, nothing helped, and after running deep cleaning for a few times printer was rejecting brand new cartridges saying they are empty. I spent another £100+ on a new set of cartridges to make sure they are not the problem - still no colour printing. I've called Canon support, they offered 'free repair' in their repair centre but no free postage, OR 20% off next Canon purchase and a link how to contact repair centre that's already on their website. This printer is bulky and heavy, I had to pay for it to be sent to their repair centre which was another £25 out of my pocket for postage. I got it back with a report saying it's in perfect condition yet printer is printing blank pages (I even recorded it). I suspect as it was close to the end of the warranty they just replaced printer head to print report (I honestly can't find different explanation how it happened that it was working perfectly when they've tried it yet it still prints blank pages after they sent it back). Now my warranty expired and I'm stuck with a very expensive printer that doesn't work. Overall very disappointed in their customer service and quality of this product. Amazon was impossible to contact regarding the issue.

eats printer cartridges
Buy this printer if you want to spend the next 2 year listening to it clean it's heads, which it likes to do a lot... and then you have to buy a new cartridge because the printer used all the ink up cleaning it's heads. Oh and when you put the new cartridges in , guess what happens .... time to make a coffee whilst it cleans it's heads!!! You can probably tell this printer is annoying me now.
