If you're a Hollywood Executive looking for the next big movie to produce, you could get a lot more out of the Movie System by paying a large caboodle of cash to Adrian Tomine to develop an interesting screenplay. Killing and Dying refers to comedy and the 'Short Cuts' style of life for various characters in America. It's a mix of styles and stories that considers humour and comedy as a serious business. Tomine seems to be already a comic favourite with Europeans and Americans. Killing and Dying analyses life, and it's characters and stories are kind of inspiring. It's a book collection of various strips rather than a straight Graphic Novel but directed more towards laughs and social stars that make everyday life kind of interesting. It's a short collection and not too bad but I personally preferred 'Sleepwalk'. But hey, it would make a lovely gift for a comic affesiado.

Avrei voluto davvero farmi piacere questo libro, ed in parte ci sono riuscito, ma alla fine della lettura (che, come dicono anche altri, si effettua tutta d'un fiato) non ho potuto fare a meno di provare un certo senso di delusione. Le storie sono interessanti, ben illustrate, e toccano con molto gusto tratti complessi della natura umana. Proprio per questo, tuttavia, le storie risultano piuttosto inaccessibili, e alla fine della lettura (almeno nel mio caso) ci si potrebbe chiedere "Qual'era il senso di questa storia? Ne aveva uno?". Questo è certamente anche un fatto positivo, in quanto spinge a pensare, ma ciò non cambia il fatto che la soddisfazione immediata è ben poca. Per intenderci, ho trovato "The Arrival", capolavoro di Shaun Tan, molto, molto più godibile. In ogni caso, il libro vale i suoi 17 Euro, le illustrazioni sono di ottima qualità (degno di nota è il fatto che lo stile delle stesse varia nel corso del libro, dal "fumettoso" all'"asettico" (quest'ultimo si può notare in copertina) e le storie sono molto intime e spingono a riflettere. Le mie preferite sono probabilmente "Amber Sweet" e "Translated, from the Japanese".

Lo compré por curiosidad y la verdad las reseñas no le llegan ni a los talones. Estaba dudoso porque la mayoría hablaban maravillas de esta novela gráfica y terminó sobrepasando mis expectativas.Lo mejor que se puede hacer es ignorar el hype y experimentar lo que el autor tiene que ofrecer.

Como todos los trabajos de Adrian Tomine, en este libro se ve un extremo cuidado por cada detalle, colores, texturas y diseño. Son varias historias sencillas de la vida cotidiana. Disfruto mucho su trabajo. Lo recomiendo.El libro llegó antes de lo que lo esperaba (lo que siempre es una buena noticia) y en perfecto estado.

Un peu à la manière de certains films indépendants américains "estampillés" Sundance, cette bd est séduisante de prime abord mais se révèle rapidement plutôt vaine et peu convaincante. Si l'histoire qui donne son nom au recueil, la plus réussie, intéresse par la narration et les non-dits entre les personnages, le reste n'est ni vraiment original ni vraiment profond. Ce n'est pas mauvais loin s'en faut, et le trait est clair; mais au final ces histoires sont un peu courtes, au propre comme au figuré. Dommage.

Compré este libro para regalo y fue una buena opción. Las historias, aunque breves, tienen una narrativa poderosa y giros que las hacen entrañables. Además, las ilustraciones son dignas de enmarcarse.

Nuevo libro de Adrien Tomine. Historias cortas, desiguales pero siempre entretenidas, estilo característico. Edición muy cuidada y un precio imbatible.

Short stories for adults looking for quick reads...

Bella edición, grafismos y dibujos. Pero no me han gustado mucho las historias. La primera está bien. Las otras van de mal en peor. Es muy americano y aburrido. Los personajes son americanos frustrados. No lo recomiendo.
