During the coronavirus lock-down my car wasn't used for several weeks and when I eventually decided to give it a short run the battery was flat. I own a 'Metro jump start', a useful item which slowly recharges the battery via the car's cigar-lighter socket. (There are similar items available from Amazon). It requires a connection to another car's cigar-lighter socket in order to draw the charging current. Under the lock-down that was not possible so I wondered whether there was such a thing as an adaptor which converts mains power to 12 volt DC. Amazon came to the rescue. I chose this particular model as it matched the cigar-lighter socket rating of up to 120 watts. It did the job brilliantly and I was delighted - the battery was slowly charged and the car started first-time.I also have an air-compressor which works from a 12V cigar-lighter socket - I used the converter to power it as well and it made the job of checking the tyres very straightforward.I would definitely recommend the RoyPow voltage converter.

I purchased a Halfords rapid car powered tyre inflator to replace the one I had that became too old to use. The discarded Michelin one was powered by a built in rechargeable battery, and served me well. A new replacement Michelin rechargeable inflator had suffered a severe dose of price inflation, making itself more expensive than I was willing to pay. Many years ago, I had owned a car powered tyre inflator, and was aware of the grossly inconvenient - not to mention environmentally unfriendly - business of having to start the car engine whilst using the inflator, to avoid running down the car battery. I was, therefore, keen to purchase a mains powered cigar lighter socket to use instead of having to run the car engine. I was advised in the local Halfords shop, where the purchase was made, that there was such an item, but it wasn't powerful enough to run the tyre inflator, so I decided to browse Amazon with caution on this very topic. The RoyPow was listed amongst others, but this one had many positive reviews on its capability to power a tyre inflator, so, with apprehension, I made the purchase. I am not a believer in writing reviews immediately after opening the packet, so this review is made after many uses. I confidently add the 5 star rating, because I can find no fault in its performance. It performs exactly as you would expect it to, and I would advise you to look no further.

I've had this for a while now. Paid for it myself at full price.I got it to because Im lazy and didnt want to pump up my bikes tires on a cold winter night with a hand pump, so it was going to be used with an air compressor.For that purpose it has done it's job flawlessly, and its near silent - in fact you wouldn't even know it had a fan inside it.My neighbours little kids have all asked me to pump up their tires and this little unit has been up to the task for powering my 150psi compressor.As its only been used to power a compressor to pump up bike tires its run times has only been for 2-3 minutes maximum. Overall its a great unit, a little pricey though!

I've been trawling the Internet for some considerable time to find a power converter that is capable of powering my air compressor. After much browsing, I came across this product. To the best of my knowledge, at this size, this is the only AC to DC converter that is powerful enough to supply 120W (150W max) power at 10A. The female lighter socket can also be used to power air compressors, car refrigerators, car cleaners, tyre inflators and other DC appliances.I purchased the Ring RAC900 Heavy Duty Tyre Inflator. This is a fantastic little compressor which is capable of inflating any size car tyre including truck tyres in very little time. It is available on Amazon, refer to link: [...]The only issue is that the compressor will only work when it is hooked-up directly to the car battery. It will not work via standard car cigarette lighter socket. A regular car socket cannot deliver enough current to power the compressor for continuous operation.After purchasing the RoyPow power converter I also bought a cigarette lighter socket extension cable which was rated to 15A i.e. the maximum power of the converter. The extension cable is also available on Amazon, link: [...]At this point I had all the necessary tools to do the modification. I hard wired a set of cables from the compressor 12v battery clips to the car socket cable so that the compressor could be powered via standard 3 pin home plug. It worked a treat. Now I can use my compressor for inflating air beds, swimming pools etc directly from a wall socket using my existing heavy duty air compressor.I purchased this item at full price. This is proving to be a very useful product. The wattage seems sufficient for most 12V accessories, including the usual vacuum cleaners, air pumps etc. but my original reason for purchase was, and is, rather different. I bought Dash Cams for my two cars and needed to try them out and perform adjustments to various settings without the fuss and inconvenience of having to start and extract the vehicles from the Garage each time. This unit performed very well and also seems suitably sturdy, well built and should last for years no matter what appropriate function I ask it to perform. In short it is highly recommended.

It is a little early to say how the unit will perform in the long run but all the signs are promising.It appears to be well made and is fitted with a British plug that is of the standard required by law (always a good sign).I have run the unit only for a few hours powering a portable fridge/freezer that I use in the car. This mains transformer allows me to take the device indoors or in a hotel room when I am away.In my limited tests the unit works well does not get to hot is quiet and powers the cooling device well.I shall be taking the kit to Europe in a few days time if it continues to function as advertised I shall be well pleased, if not look for another review of it by myself.To sum up at the moment I strongly recommend this transformer unit.

I have just used this 'straight from the box' to power my brand new P.I. Auto Store Premium Digital Tyre Inflator - Electric 12v DC Portable Auto Air Compressor. Pump to 150 Psi. With Carry Case (see also my review of that).Initially wanted it to free me from needing the car, or a spare 12V battery, to pump up bike tyres. However I can foresee it being useful on caravan/camping sites and at home for inflating air beds, paddling pools etc. Also for trying out new 12V equipment (e.g. dashcams etc) on a test bench.I'm quite surprised that Maplin don't have a similar offering available - but there you go.So far, I'm really pleased with this. Robust and simple.

This convertor works well. It is rated at 120W and I used it to power up a car vacuum cleaner, rated at 110W. The power provided by the convertor to the vacuum cleaner was more than enough to drive it well. The convertor is a little bulky, but this is understood due to the "relatively high" wattage it is able to provide.
