Q: Does this have a forward/reverse ratchet?

Yes, rotate the ratchet collar one way or the other to use it, or use the central position to lock it for operation with no ratchet.

Q: How do I get this item off of the packaging and which bits of the black plastic on the packaging are to be kept? It's fixed solid!!!

The set has a black or yellow holder with screw bits in ..this can be used to hang up so you need to keep this. I j snipped the black ties that was on our packaging. And used a lot of force to pull out. If you damage the separate holder don’t worry as most of the screw ends will fit inside the screwdriver. It only needed if you wanted to wall Mount the longer screw parts. Hope this helps

The heads are, Flathead, Phillips, posi and Star bits.

Q: Are the screwdriver bits magnetic to hold screws?

No, the bits are held in magnetically, but the magnetism doesn't then run down the bits. That being said it is a nice driver, feels very solid and comfortable.
