LEGO City 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe

I recently purchased this for my son and we had great fun building it and running it around in the track. It's not that complicated to build, just takes time (which can be turned into quality time) and provides plenty of play oportunities since it includes several wagon types, figures and some vehicles also. This train can move very fast and is quite realistic! I just wish it had some additional track but it is quite enough to enjoy out of the box! I'm planning on buying the 7896 pack and perhaps the train station also. The cargo wagon doors can sometimes get loose (with time) which is bad. Overall, a great buy!

Good item added to collection, will be enjoyed fully when needed, very useful and a great addition, will be added to my son collection

We bought this for our 5 (nearly 6) year old son for Christmas as he is a fan of both Lego and trains but it has far exceeded all our expectations. There are a few different coaches and trucks which enabled him (very patiently and with a little help) to build each one up. Imagine, then, the joy when the train was complete and could be moved around the track with the remote control!! I know that only a few days have elapsed since Christmas but this item has already brought so much fun and I'm sure will continue to do so - and it is educational too, as it requires a lot of patience, concentration and application to put it together. Expensive, perhaps, but well worth the money to see the smile on a little boy's face!!

We've been buying Lego Trains since the early 90's (new-track era) and suffice to say this is one of the best deals, if not 'the' best deal for youngsters out there. Their are so many nice touches which this make this better value than even 10 years ago.However, this is most likely because Lego have stripped this set of 9 volt functionality. It works from Batteries via a remote control (3-speed), and the track is all plastic, which leaves out much of the original 9 volt components. To newcomers, this may not be a problem if all you want is to play with new and current components, but for the many people globally that support 9V Lego, this set is something of a Catch 22.I have successfully fit a 9V motor to the Loco which was fairly easy, but this leaves one with the conumdrum of plastic track that won't pick-up on the motor.Pros:- Beautifully detailed models; possibly one of Lego's finest Train sets- Excellent value compared to Lego Train sets in the past- Very authentic, lots of nice additions that would in the past be sold separately- Remote Control is a nice, offers lots of freedom- Nice new mini-figures; alot more quirkyCons:- Crane can topple over very easily, even with light loads- No 9V functionality- The all-plastic track is no cheaper than 9V trackIn short however, I think this an excellent set for any family that is looking forward and just wants an excellent value package right now. But if you own any kind of 9V Lego Trains/metal-strip track, this set is not compatible. 4 Stars is fair enough; despite this main flaw, it works fantastically which is the whole point!

Fabulous quality, great instructions for assembly and quality control. Runs beautifully, as does the 'express', we use recharagable batteries and it runs for hours. Sticks to the track like glue,it is great value for money, you get what you pay for. Am a lego convert.
