Good quality DVD player at a very reasonable price.
We recently acquired a Smart LG TV. We could not get our old DVD player to work with it (I am sure there is a way to get it to work, but we couldn't work it out). We decided to buy a new DVD player and as our TV is LG, chose an LG DVD player as well. This was extremely easy to install, we simply plugged it into an HDMI connection on the TV. It was also very easy to use, with a simple to use remote control. The picture quality is very good and my husband is enjoying watching old DVDs on the large screen. Overall this is a good DVD player at a very reasonable price. I am happy to recommend it.

Dead easy to set up
I decided to buy this DVD player as it had good reviews and was a reasonable price. Very pleased with it. A big plus was that all I had to do was plug it in to the back of the tv. Very easy to operate and picture quality is excellent. Again, handset simple to use. Had it four weeks and been working perfectly. On that basis would recommend it. Only thing is I had to buy HDMI cables to connect it to the tv. Worth buying decent ones.

A good basic player
I was undedided about this player at first i had a lg blu ray player for 6 years which produced a good picture on dvd and blu ray after installing this player whixh was a doddle i thought the picture was not great however after adjusting the settings on the player and tv i now have the picure quality good the sound from this player is excellent far better than the other player i had the only reason it was marked down to 4 stars on picture is i feel this is not as good as my old player but for the price it is well worth the money paid if you want a good well priced basic dvd player i would recommend this hands down

Quality & price
Nothing not to like. Slim, good design and good quality picture. If you still have DVD's but don't want to pay a fortune, just buy it. It's LG which is a great brand name & at this price, I'd highly recommend.

A good DVD player 5 stars
If you intend connecting your new DVD player to your TV with a HDMI cable or using Component cable then the LG DP542H is a very good choice although as other reviews have pointed out, in its standard LG packing it is not supplied with any connecting cables. This player has not got a SCART connection so if you must use a SCART cable to connect to your TV you’re better off looking at other players. The picture and sound quality are both very good and it is pretty quiet in operation. It can upscale DVD pictures to higher resolutions in an attempt to get a sharper picture. The output resolution is changed with a button on the remote control, causing the player to cycle through its available resolutions which are confirmed in the players display window. At its price level of £35 for the unhacked (Region 2) player, it is a very good value machine.

Reliably plays DVDs and audio CDs
I bought this DVD player to replace a 20-year old Sony DVD player that was getting unreliable. I just wanted a player for DVDs and audio CDs, with the ability to connect directly to my stereo amplifier. The LG DP542H is perfect for the job and fulfils my requirements (has red/white audio output phonos), also with the flexibility of additional video outputs should I need them. In practice, the HDMI output provides a good quality up-scaled picture to my 32in Samsung TV, far better than the pictures I watched with my 20-year old DVD player (through its Scart connector) using the same DVDs. When playing audio CDs the remote control allows selecting individual music tracks by pressing the numerical button corresponding to the track number. There are other very useful buttons on the remote: "subtitles" enables subtitle language (or non) to be selected while playing a DVD (much better than having to stop and use a menu). Also the remote controls volume, source and power for my TV. The remote is laid out in a very friendly way. This DVD player is far better for purpose than using a Blu-ray player that I tried for a short while which occasionally crashed after a DVD pause, was very slow to respond to its remote, and was very unfriendly when playing audio CDs. It was returned to the shop! I have not tried the USB connector for playing media files because my TV already has this facility.

Cheap and cheerful. Zero Wow factor.
I wouldn't have minded paying a bit more for a DVD player had I known in advance what the 'quality' of this unit. Don't get me wrong, it's fine. There's nothing wrong with it but as another reviewer remarked, it makes for a good player for the bedroom. Being the happy owner of an LG 4K TV I thought the build of this unit would be up to a similar spec. But it just has an extremely cheap, lightweight feel about it. It plays DVDs and it seems to do an alright job of that but it's basic - Very basic. If you're on a small budget, go for it. It shouldn't disappoint but don't expect to be wowed by it.
