{RENTED Not Purchased} Not Bad For A Mattel Charactor Based Movie
Max Steel I Have to admit that I did like this Movie, I was always in to all the super hero comics and cartoons as a kid and I got away from them as I got older in my teens and beyond. Yet I did keep a lose eye on some more than others, and even watched the old Batman series til it was taken off the air, but Max Steel I never did hear of, I will have to my research on it, I no longer have little ones they have grown up and not really in to many of the cartoons or comics. The kid in me though saw this for what it is, a great movie that is family friendly with no fowl four letter words being spewed from start to finish, no outlandish and overly sexual scenes or costumes that are overly sexually suggestive and in my honest option that is getting a bit old and tired really. If you have young-ins that are still in to cartoons and comics I would recommend this as family night movie, I guess they rated it PC-13 due to some gun fire and the fighting towards the end, NO this not a marvel movie and I did not expect it to be like one and yet Max the teenager does not look like one, he looks to be more like in his early 20's but I would say "Ben Winchell" played the character fairly well with the writing that he was given, but then again I have not heard of him til this movie. Yes the scripting could have been better with the way the writers had the movie play out, they could have added at least another 10 minutes to the movie to give you some kind of back story as to how it starts out, but they chose to use flash backs and bad dreams kind of, to give the back story of how, what, why of how this character game to be and where the character and story arc goes. I hope that they are able to continue with the story and develop the character "Max Steel" but they will have to get a bit more creative with the writing, there were no real plot twists in this movie and that would have made it a bit more interesting, but they need to keep the family friendly aspect, that is if they are planning to release another movie. What I also liked is that they did not have in your face advertising for what ever like they did in the last few marvel movies. It was the good fashioned good guy vs Bad guy super hero movie, like the original superman movies were, the CGI was okay and not over the top or filled all kinds of gadgets and scifi mumbo jumbo techno babel that can at times make ya head hurt and just kinda ruin things at times if not done just rite, honestly there really was no need for it anyway. This is not star trek, it had a fair amount of humor and that to was bit lame at times and it could have been better. The story was okay it could have been a bit better and again it came down to the writing of the script, I think that is where it fell short for those none young-ins, I'm trying not to give up any spoilers here for those that did not see it yet, but would like to, the way I see it this was made for the young-ins and for parents to have a good movie to watch and not worry about, will I have to hit pause or fast forward and cover the child's eyes and ears. Have a good Movie night with ya young-ins that are in to these kind of super hero movies.

“See Max, we have fun together. We’re like nesting dolls.”
I had no idea that Max Steel was based on a toy; never heard of it or the TV show prior to watching this movie. So I’m basing my reaction to it purely by what I watched.Yes, the ‘story’ was a bit predictable. There were casting issues (when you hire someone known for playing villains there is no surprise when it’s eventually revealed). The alien menace wasn’t fully explained. The character Max had questions and I had questions, neither of us were satisfied by any begrudging answer that made any sense. The FX wasn’t half bad. I liked the sidekick Steel. Most of the cast was personable. I was sufficiently entertained. I have to say I enjoyed watching it. But. It was a box office dud and critics hated it. For whatever that’s worth.

Entertaining Sci-Fi families can enjoy, despite the plot holes
Teen aged Max and his mom have just moved back to the place where he was born, and is confronted with memories about his dad, a prominent local scientist, who died here years ago in an unexplained accident. Just as Max has been shielded from the facts, viewers are just as confused unless you are familiar with the animated series. He experiences weird flash backs, energy fluxes and strange powers that he tries to hide. At a lab across town, an unknown entity comes to life and escapes, while secretive, armed squadrons try to capture it. Something draws these two together, and the story unfolds in fits and starts, while dark forces are gathering to plot the Earth's ultimate demise. Unfortunately, the story is only very sketchily pieced together and leaves plenty of holes, which no doubt the producers hope to one day fill with a sequel. Despite this, the film is entertaining and fairly fast paced. CGI is pretty decent and there is enough to keep adults and kids occupied, with no worries about graphic language or anything more racy than a quick kiss.

Not a bad movie
I saw reviews for this movie that ranked it as one of the worst movies in it’s category. This movie wasn’t made for the critics. It was made for the kids that watched the cartoon and loved it. Just like my son. When it was done I asked him how the movie was and he went on a praise fest for this movie that lasted quite a while. So, by the target audience’s opinion, this is a great movie.

Thoroughly entertaining....loved Ben Winchell.
16-year-old Max McGrath discovers that his body can generate a mysterious energy. When he meets Steel—a rebellious techno-organic alien who has been secretly watching him and must band together to form the superhero Max Steel. I don't understand why this got such bad reviews here and when it was in the theatres? I thought this had all the right elements to be entertaining. Now in all fairness I have to say that the bad guy of the piece was pretty much obvious to me from the start, nevertheless I was very entertained and the lead actor Ben Winchell as Max was terrific, he really was, I loved the little alien robot too, he was pretty funny. This isn't just for the kids, I am not a kid and really did enjoy it. Sit down with the kids not the very young ones but the ones that will get it and you will have fun too and at the same time maybe bond a bit.

What a disappointment!
A rushed through film that has so much more potential. No actual plot line and the ending left us feeling "Was that it?!".
