Q: Can you download whatsapp on it

I don't use whatapp myself but as you can download Facebook etc: I think you should be able to download the app?

Q: Will it take Giff Gaff size sim?

SIM cards come in 4 sizes. 'First-form-factor' cards are credit card sized and are hardly ever used now, though the other sizes are usually supplied inside them ready to be pressed out. 'Second-form-factor' cards are the largest - and still the commonest - currently used, though the trend is towards smaller ones. 'Third-form-factor' cards were used by Apple for the iPhone 4, but with the iPhone 5 they moved on to the 'Fourth-form-factor' cards, which are really tiny. All mobile phone service providers will supply their cards in whichever size you need for your phone, though to have sizes other than the 2nd FF usually means asking for them specially. Giff-Gaff is no exception. By default they will supply cards as 2nd FF. The Blackberry Curve takes this size, so you should be fine. Do note that there are adaptors available to fit the smaller sized cards into phones using the bigger ones - the ones I use are from Media Devil and I can vouch for them.
