There is a straight flat line with upturned ends near the scissors symbol - this provides a space.

does it come with embosser tape?

one tape is included with a new machine and lasts for ages. You can also buy spare tapes (in different colours) quite cheaply - all available from Amazon.

Anyone know if the labels are water/dishwasher proof? I am a childminder and want to stick name labels on their plastic cups.

Are you serious??!! Try washing their cups between use, or use different coloured cups? If all else fails, then dymo-label the kids!!
