Smooth paper - great for sketching, but....
Strangely, this pad - although exactly the same as the previous one I'd bought from a different seller - was much smoother paper and all-round much better to use. The only downside, is that despite it saying there are 80 pages (approx), when using marker pens and fineliners, the pen shows through so you can only effectively use half of those pages and not the back of them. However, if you are using them for pencil or other medium that doesn't bleed through the paper, this sketchbook is a no-brainer. Fab paper quality, hardback book, comes in different sizes. I'll be buying again and again.

Great for artists
The paper has great quality, it's not too thick but it still doesn't warp when using water based media. Fantastic value for money

Good except…
The pages are rippable, they have holes made to rip which isn't what i wanted but its okay

Perfect Paper for Expensive Fountain Pens and Ink
I collect and use fountain pens and really nice inks, and as a writer, I'm making notes all day, everywhere, and I prefer ring bound notebooks because of their ability to fold back on themselves out of the way.The trouble is, most WB notebooks are feint or heavy ruled - whereas I like a clean, unruled writing space with no clutter. The paper must also be heavyweight, as the lighter the paper, the more it soaks up the ink.The W&N A5 gives me that space, and, best of all - really classy brilliant white 170gsm paper which can't be bettered for ink work. No feathering, no bleed through, the writing surface is just perfect for showing off the shading of any ink I use ( I put a lot of ink reviews out for the FPen community so it must photograph well), and a good nib glides across the page without any effort. All in all I'm very glad I found these pads, which will now be a staple in my writing case.Great for pens and ink of any type (I've even tested it with a dip pen and W&N shellac based ink - no issues whatsoever), so they would be great for ink sketchers and calligraphers. For watercolour I can't say, but this paper is bombproof with water based inks hand extra fine to broad pen nibs, so it should be fine. The card is also substantial enough to go straight into a frame.Very happy with my purchase, I'll be back for more. Buy them with confidence, they are perfect for impromptu sketches.Hope this helped.

W&N quality
My use: written/sketch ideas. One will live in dusty, grubby, wet clay environment, pads future will be abusive. Other will be pampered with velvet cushions, central heating, personal butler and valet, chauffeur driven book shelf and as many chip butties as it can eat.I bought two A5, because this pad is classed as a 'add on' item, no problem as I have great respect for W&Newton and knew that at some point I would return for future purchase of same item. The pad is sturdy and durable, as expected of W&N. The pages will take text, drawings, and I suspect paint. I will soon be back to purchase a couple more in smaller/pocket size A6. :)

A sketchbook of great quality!
I've always been a stickler for good sketchbooks and I wasn't disappointed with this one! Some people don't really like the smoothness of the paper but I do. Plus the inside edges of the pages are perforated making it easy to remove pages without making a mess; a problem I've faced many times in the past.Overall, I'm really impressed with this sketchbook and I'll definitely be buying more in the future.

Not great for watercolours
Good value sketchbook but I don't think suitable for watercolours as listed by seller and on cover - paper not heavy enough not to crinkle and paint doesn't bleed /blend so well as on thicker papers.
