WD 2 TB My Passport Wireless Pro, Black

I received a faulty drive. All LEDs blinking fast which indicates a defective drive. Terribly disappointing because I was looking forward to work with it. I read many reviews where other buyers had similar problem. I arranged a replacement the following day and I'm hoping that the next drive will be ok. Not happy and I hope that the next one works.(Next day): The replacement drive arrived! The set up at the beginning was a very "bumpy ride" but after managing to connect it to my WiFi network and installing the MyCloud app, the rest of my experience with the drive till the very late hours, was smooth, blissful and happy because everything worked as it should! I believe that the biggest problem with this drive is not it's quality or factionality but the terribly confusing in places, operating instructions. I returned the first drive but now I'm not so sure that it was faulty at all. The manual imticates that when all the LED lights blink fast fast, it means that the drive has a serious problem and Western Digital should be called! I had the same problem at the beginning with the second drive but I didn't give up and started looking into a sea of information in the online support section of the WD website. I realised that a simple reset of the drive by pressing the power button and the SD button together for 5-10 seconds could solve the problem. But as opposed to the manual, that worked only when I pressed those buttons together when the drive was off and not on. Everything after that moment worked like a dream. So Mr and Mrs Potential Buyer, if I could give my humpble opinion, I would say that so far I'm very happy with the performance and factionality of the drive, but if you buy one and unpack it, you might be lucky and face an easy, no headache set up or you might think that you received a faulty drive and get frustrated and return it, but you will only be a victim of poorly updated instructions from WD. I'll still give it 5 stars because it's what I expected.

Oh dear, I should have paid more attention to the many 1-star reviews.I needed something I could use to backup the SD cards from my digital cameras, and this seemed the perfect product. On paper the ‘Pro’ badge seems well deserved, because the My Passport Wireless Pro is much more capable than similar products from other manufacturers.Unfortunately, the device I was sent failed to work, exhibiting the same symptoms that many other users have reported: I was unable to connect to the device’s wifi network, and all the device’s LEDs flashed at high rate (indicating a problem with the device). I also found that it would not connect to a Windows PC via the supplied USB cable (it went through a repeated cycle of briefly appearing in Device Manager, then immediately disappearing).Some users who experienced these symptoms have reported that the issue could be resolved by hard-resetting the device, but this didn’t work for me. I have therefore returned the product to Amazon for a refund.In contrast to my experience with the product, the Amazon return process worked perfectly: it was simple, quick and efficient, and the refund appeared within a day.I note that WD Technical Support have responded to a number of the 1-star reviews suggesting that the customer should have tried contacting WD support before returning the product to Amazon. Whilst I’m impressed that the WD Support team are proactively trying to help users of their products, I don’t feel I should need to contact a technical support team to use a brand new product for the task it is advertised to perform. The Amazon reviews clearly show that many customers have experienced the same issue as me, and I hope WD will investigate why so many of these devices are arriving in an unusable state, and to rectify the design defect that appears to exist in this product.I’ve had no problems with WD products in the past, but I shall think very carefully before buying another WD product.

This costs quite a bit more, maybe 3x, the price of a 4TB disk, so what else do you get for the money?Well, it comes in a very sturdy casing which also turns out to accommodate a computer running Linux with an Apache webserver and various other goodies so there's plenty to play with (but be careful not to break any software dependencies!). The Linux installation is quite old (2017 if I recall) and doesn't seem to want to update itself so would be security risk online.It plugs into a PC/Laptop via a USB connection which transfers files remarkably quickly. It has a bespoke connection at the disk end which is a bit of a worry if I lose or break the lead. I don't know why they did it that way – maybe just to make money from spare leads??? (Or maybe it somehow explains the high speed transfer?)It has an SD card slot which is supposed to automatically backup when a card is inserted but it doesn't always start automatically and it's not easy to spot whether or not it is working. When it does work, it's very straightforward and it manages the incremental backups successfully. Similarly it is supposed to take backups directly from USB devices but I haven't managed to get that to work at all yet.It comes with software to manage backups from PC/Laptop and that's working very well. It seems to backup some files again each time it runs, which an incremental backup isn't supposed to, but better safe than sorry.I've had limited success with the wifi connection. It drops out, sometimes quite a lot. I imagine it might work well if there was no other wifi in the area. I have a camera that uses wifi to talk to my phone and that works best in the middle of nowhere so maybe this backup device would be the same.So on the upside, it looks and feels very robust and – when it works – it does an excellent job in terms of speed and managing the process, especially when physically connected to the PC/Laptop. On the downside, it doesn't work every time and it's not easy to spot whether it's working, and the Linux distro doesn't seem to be getting security updates.

My drive arrived yesterday and I've now had chance to do some tests. I had heard rumours about the My Passport Wireless Pro and so held off from buying its predecessor. So far it is living up to expectations and performs brilliantly with SD cards. I did a couple of tests today:Test 1 – Transfer from Compact Flash (CF) to My Passport Wireless ProData transferred: 9.87 GBTime taken: 37.16 minutesEffective transfer rate: 4.53 Mbytes/SecBattery consumed: approx. 14% of capacity (both wifi ports were enabled and operational so not in low power mode)Test 2 – Transfer from SD card via built in SD Card reader to My Passport Wireless ProData transferred: 24.4 GBTime taken: 8.5 minutesEffective transfer rate: 49 Mbytes/SecBattery consumed: approx. 3% of capacity (both wifi ports were enabled and operational so not in low power mode)Backing up from SD cards is very impressive and easy; CF about the same as I get on my home PC which is not surprising as it is using a USB 2 port on the My Passport Wireless Pro.The device has a series of four small subtle LEDs on it which indicate the progress of the backup (or battery life when not backing up). They are very useful and mean the device can work stand alone for backup without a mobile device to act as a screen (which can be done easily); you simply plug your SD card in and wait for the fourth LED to go solid – when it does go solid the card is backed up. Incremental back up also works. Via a USB 3 cable (supplied) the drive can be connected to a PC and any backed-up files imported into Lightroom, say.Media streaming is another cool feature and seems to work well. I had no problem connecting to my Sony TVs and streaming videos, pictures or music.I am an enthusiastic photographer and the specification on this product seems to cater for most of the wants and needs of a digital photographer. It is now possible to leave the laptop behind when out in the field and back up memory cards very easily. In theory it should be possible to be away from any power-supplies for many days and be able to take back-ups very easily.The size is ok and the weight compared to some of the lenses I carry around is also ok however using an SSD rather than a conventional hard disk would have reduced the weight and made it a very cool device.My Passport Wireless Pro will connect directly (via wifi) to mobile devices and to your home network simultaneously (it has two wifi ports) if you want it to. Viewing files and changing settings is relatively easy from any device. The only weak point I have noticed so far is the android MY Cloud app.I am already recommending this to my friends. It is possibly a little expensive but how much value does one put on a days worth of pictures? Of course it can be used for other purposes and comes with software to back up your pictures from your home computer - but I've not tried this and have no intention of doing so.This seems a first class product and long overdue.

I've seen poor reviews of this product, but that hasn't been my experience at all. I'm a semipro photographer so took this on a trip to Kenya. The drive (I have the 4TB model) is light enough to backpack with and robust - it withstood very high temperatures, clouds of fine dust, four flights and many hours of incredibly bumpy roads with huge amounts of vibration and knocks. It performed brilliantly. Dodgy local power meant the inbuilt battery was a lifesaver - every evening I'd stick a group of SD memory cards into the drive's inbuilt slot, and they were automatically downloaded (around 2000 images a day) regardless of what the local power was doing. I could connect easily to the drive using the inbuilt wifi via my IPhone to review the images whilst being completely off-grid. I've also taken it on a trip to the damp and cold North York Moors - same experience: completely reliable and a superb piece of kitMy only gripe is the lack of a wired ethernet port - when I got back home from Kenya, downloading 30,000 images via the wifi took hours, and the wifi overheated (in fairness it was a hot day by UK standards) causing the drive to shut down. I couldn't get the USB3 connection to work with my ageing laptop's USB2 socket. When the drive had cooled down again it worked fine. All my data was stored and transferred correctly with no errors or loss. The best acccolade I can give this is that I'd buy it again like a shot. Brilliant device, and I'll be taking it on every shoot from now on.

4TB WD MY PASSPORT WIRELESS PRO.Delivered 21st March. 2019If you are looking at reviews look after 01/08/2018 when firmware update 1.04.17 was issued as this did solve a few issues. But if you look at WD forum for this product people are still having compatibility problems. You may be lucky and all is fine or you will give up and return it. Buying this product through Amazon is the only safe thing to do. I am on my third replacement and all is almost fine.Not tried multiplex on it but all else at present is working. I use Samsung S2 tab running lollipop 6.0.1 and PC windows pro 7 (this is a very clean machine more a workstation for photoshop).First unit was a amazon previously returned unit, took a chance to save £65. The WiFi did not function at all, tried a factory reset but still did not work. Amazon refunded return postage and cost. I then ordered a new 4T unit (as very impressed with Amazon return service)This time having read around the various forums and feedback I undertook a very careful product check.CD reader worked OK but best speed I could get out of it was 37MB/sec. 2 separate pro cards marketed at 90MB/sec read achieved 90MB/sec using my own reader into USB port of my PC. Not sure how one review stated 90MB/sec was achieved. My tests where real situations on 7 and 15Gb files over 3 tests.Upload speed to PC 77MB/sec same data using WD cables into USB 3.0 port. Not wonderful but workable.WIFI.Both 3G and 5G worked solidly on PC and tablet. 433mb/sec connected speed on 5G as per spec. But I found the WiFi android app experience sluggish. I have my tablet connecting at 866mb/sec to my router where I interface my Synology photo station app which absolutely flies, no waiting at all.One flaw which manifests it's self on my tablet using WiFi connection is the images are not full resolution (clicking get HD jpg version makes little difference, raw is just the same). They are soft so reviewing your days photos when away for sharpness is impossible. If I connect by cable the images are full resolution and perfectly sharp.I had a lot of issues connecting by usb 3 cable to the tablet. So i asked for another replacement which Amazon provided. (Again very impressed).The speed tests i carried out on this 3rd unit matched very closely with the 2nd unit.Unfortunately the usb 3 cable connection problems happened again. As i really want this unit to work I played with debugging the connection and all of a sudden it worked. Tablet had reported corrupted WD hdd, but it was not corrupted as other tests shown. Still not confident it will continue to connect over USB 3 but a trip in 3 weeks will test it. The sd card reader has no issues so I think it will serve as a reliable sd card back up. I will not be reformatting my cards whilst away. The WD unit will be used to have a second copy available if things go wrong, would not risk all my photos solely on the WD drive.At the moment whilst writing this review I am watching the WD unit in PC backup mode. Seems to be OK so far 99GB backed in 70mins, 23MB/sec again not wonderful. Between SSDS on this machine it will back up at 300MB/sec. But taking away on holiday a full PC backup is useful, houses do burn down. My system also has a full back up on a Synology NAS. SO this WD hdd makes the 5th full back up. (Am I paranoid? ) I have 60000 pictures which record the last 20 yrs of my life.So in conclusion 3 stars I think. Useful but could do better. I am pleased I brought it through Amazon.

I have WD products - my passport and the 4TB mycloud NAS. All good. Needed another portable hard drive so went for this Wireless Pro. It's a great idea - who doesn't want these kind of features, right? However, the reality is that it simply does not deliver. Received the product end of June, went faulty mid-august. No drop damage, knocks etc.Used to transfer all of my family holiday images and videos from SD cards - 4 cards only - and unit became defective. Got the 'all LED's fast blinking' fault. WD web support next to useless, frankly. Have to wait 2 business days for a response (really?!). Tried all remedial solutions as per WD website, none of which worked. I was concerned that the Amazon thirty days return period had expired. Hmm, £162-odd quid at risk here... Decided to contact Amazon (click a button for an immediate call back, 50 seconds later I'm talking to Melesha) and so glad I did. Melesha apologised (not her fault obviously, but good customer service) and offered a refund or replacement. I went for the refund. While I was on hold, the returns email popped through. Sorted. Now that's what I call customer service. Amazon & Melesha 5 - Western Digital 0. What about my holiday pics and vids, then? Well, I thought I'd better not delete the SD cards, I had a 'just in case' feeling about the Wireless Pro because although it's 'portable', I felt like the housing was not rugged enough. Looks like I made the right call... I'm now looking for a better alternative.

After using a number of similar devices eg WD My Passport wireless version 1, Ravpower file hub, Verbatim media share and Apotop wi-copy I decided to try this device and I’m not disappointed.I wanted it for storing image files whilst on photographic ventures away from a pc and relying on an iPad. So far I haven’t discovered any problems and it does everything I need.It is easy to set up, the transfer of images seems to be well organised, downloading into dedicated dated folders. The best feature is the speed of download thanks to the SD 3.0 interfaceUsing a Sandisk Extreme SD card (90 mb/s) I was a able to download 16gb of raw images in 6 minutes which is fast compared to all other similar units I’ve used.I am very pleased that it supports my Raf raw files and suspect it will support other raw files.As with all card readers care is needed to safely eject the cards.Hopefully my good first impressions will be sustained

Anfangs Schrott, heute TOP !Um es kurz zu machen:Weboberfläche übersichtlich und selbstklärend. Die App ist OK, aber anscheinend ist die Firmeneigene Softwareabteilung nicht in der Lage sauberen Code zu schreiben. Da kommt es vor, dass die Festplatte einfach anfängt wild zu blinken. Die Ursachen können zu wenig Speicher auf der Festplatte, ein zu schnell entfernter USB Stick oder sonstwas sein. Jetzt blinkt dir Platte wild, ausschalten kann man sich nicht, auf jedwede Art von Action reagiert sie nicht. Man kann warten, aber einfach ausschalten geht nicht. Das ist super für ein Produkt, welches normalerweise "schnell" ein Backup machen soll. Anstatt die Software einfach vorher checkt und entsprechend reagiert, hängt sie sich auf. Und grundsätzlich ist es mir egal, was die Ursache des Problems ist, es soll mindestens neu starten und mir sagen was falsch gelaufen ist. Leider hier nicht der Fall. Man möchte die Platte in dieser Situation am liebsten gegen die Wand werfen.Gleicher Fehler aus mit einer Hero5 MicroSD und Mavic Pro im Adapter. Hero Session Micro SD läuft.Tolle Idee, grottige Umsetzung, nicht zu gebrauchen, da unzuverlässig. Dann lieber wieder mehrere Speicherkarten.Nachtrag:Mit inoffiziellem Update nun keine Probleme mehr. Alle Speichermedien werden erkannt und gesichert. Danke WD... danke... 😊Sterne geändert von 2 auf 5 da für meine Zwecke nun endlich zu gebrauchen.

Per il momento sono contento.... Sono riuscito a scaricare le immagini dalla GoPro senza passare per un computer.... L'ho acquistata per quello.... Un po' macchinosa però

ürün eksiksiz ve çabuk bir şekilde elime geçti.ürünün kullanımı kolay. hem kendi bulut ortamınızı yaratmanıza izin veriyor hem de hızlı bir yedekleme sistemi olarak kullanılabiliyor. ayrıca micro-ssd kartları otomatik kopyalama özelliği var. böylece açık alanda çekim yapanların kartlarını anında yedeğe alma olanağı sağlıyor.

Does not have cloud service like drop box. Battery drained almost instantly.Very touchy connection.

Ottimo, gran capacità, la copia della sd è molto veloce, il server plex è fantastico e posso guardare le mie serie tv senza neanche attaccare il disco alla tv, molto comodo. L'unica cosa che ho chiesto a WD modificare il sistema di copia della sd, perché adeso fa una copia di tutta la SD ogni giorno, vorrei invece una copia di solo le foto che non ci sono, speriamo nel prossimo firmware.
