Q: At the weakest spring setting, does it stop starlings from using the feeder?

NO! It does not stop starlings nor other blackbirds, not at any spring setting. Starlings quickly learn to knock the feeder about so that feed falls to the ground. Starlings empty my feeder within about 30 minutes.

Q: I've dismantled the feeder to totally clean it. I have reassembled but find it now closes with weight but does not open fully again. Any remedies ?

I know this is an old question but I have the answer. When reassembling do *not* tighten the nut holding the inner tube to the spindle. It needs some slack to be able to slide...the nut is a self locking type so will not come off if left loose.

Q: Does this stop pigeons too!?

Yes absolutely! I have watched them sit on the branch above and they cannot perch or cling to the feeder. Squirrels have given up trying! I like pigeons and squirrels but feed separately keeping the feeder for the exclusive use of our many beautiful garden birds.

NO! This feeder dose not stop crows nor any other blackbird. In fact, crows are so smart they learn how to defeat this feeder faster than other blackbirds. They knock the feeder about until all the feed falls to the ground -- 30 minutes to empty the feeder I have.
