The best couple of hundred quid you'll ever spend
I had virtually given up on these so called home audio systems after having a previous Panasonic system and two LG systems, all of which were designed to give as much bass as possible with scant regard for the midrange and treble frequencies, making the overall sound totally horrible, with voices muffled and a treble which was almost non existent. I gave up on them in the end and never switched them on, they made my CDs unlistenable and audio from the TV so unclear, it was far better through the TV speakers. It was out of frustration I thought I would give it one more chance, so ordered this system as it least had a manual equaliser, which all the others had lacked. I was surprised at how big and heavy these speakers are, unusual for a system in this price bracket. Something else that was unusual is that they are bi-wired, so the bass speaker is driven by a separate amplifier to the midrange and treble speakers. Not the most attractive of speakers but I could live with that if they sounded good, and in that respect I wasn't disappointed. The first thing I noticed was that the sound was a million miles away from the other systems I have had in the past. Yes there was still a big bass punch, but the midrange and treble was remarkably clear and complemented the bass nicely. I spent the rest of the day re-discovering my CD collection, whilst enjoying sound from my TV that other systems could only dream about. One thing I shall never understand is why manufacturers of these systems provide preset equaliser settings that all sound completely useless, with only the 'Rock' setting providing listenable audio. Thank you Panasonic for at least providing a manual equaliser which allows precise settings of the bass, midrange and treble, which is exactly what these systems need. Another big advantage of this system is, not only does it come with a bass boost option that Panasonic call 'D Bass', but you can adjust the level of the bass boost in six steps, so no longer do you have to put up with a booming bass, it's possible to adjust it to exactly the way you like it.If you've ever had one of these systems in the past and had to put up with less than perfect sound, then believe me this system won't disappoint. Panasonic have actually put some thought into this one, as shown by the bi-wired speakers and the manual equaliser. It's advertised as having a crazy 1,700 watts total power output, but that figure is measured at 30% total harmonic distortion, so take it with a pinch of salt. Having said that, the system goes loud, VERY loud and I doubt if you'll ever turn the volume up by more than 50%, at which point the cat will have hid behind the sofa and the neighbours will be hanging on the wall!!!If you want a powerful audio system with a myriad of features, then I'm in no doubt this is the one to get. You'll only get better sound by popping into your nearest Hi-Fi dealer and spending big money on a separates system, and even then any improvement is likely to be small and not cost effective. I would definitely recommend this one, it's the best couple of hundred quid you'll ever spend, especially when you consider that a tiny Bluetooth speaker can cost you just as much. Buy it, try it and if you don't like it, send it back, but I bet you won't.Footnote: Beware of the reviews, Amazon have mixed them up and they refer to 3 different systems. Make sure you only read the ones for the product you are considering buying. After listening to the various presets I've come to the conclusion they are hopeless and do not enhance the sound in anyway. If anyone else has this system I would highly recommend setting the equaliser to the following settings Bass -2 Midrange -1 Treble +4 Surround Sound Off. Set the D Bass to +4 Beat Mode and sit back and enjoy the best sound you'll get out of your Panasonic HiFi.

Good for a casual user like myself
After a little tweaking to control the bass, I found this system to be perfect for me. I find no distortion at higher volumes and the sound is clear and of a good quality, although I can't literally ramp up the volume to the highest settings to test them.I played music from my mobile using Bluetooth for an hour (from about 4.5m away) and it dropped out twice for about half a second during that hour, so no real dramas there.Check the sizing in the description, the unit is bigger than I expected despite reading it myself. Having said that, it is a nice looking unit so the size isn't a major gripe. The leads to the speakers are the issue with this unit, although reading reviews for other units suggests this is now a common theme. They're short, so any grand plans for your room will require some extra lead and a little DIY, not useful for the warranty.I would heartily recommend this unit to a casual user such as myself, it's simple to use, looks good and plays well.

Decent if you are on a budget. Not the best and not the worst
I bought this for my partner around a year ago now and it does play loud but the bass is very muddy. The speaker wires are unnecessarily short and some may even find the system a little bulky. Within a few listens, I was convinced that I will be upgrading from this system at some point. If you want something that will be okay for the time being and for a decent price then you can't go wrong but if you are looking for crisp and perfect sound then this is definitely not the product for you. When it comes to sound, you pay for what you get at the end of the day.

Very Disapointing and poor sound quality.
Having read most of the reviews, I decided to purhcase a Panasonic SC-AKX400. Anyhow I've tried it out and I'm extremely disapointed with it to say the least. The sound is really echoey, fuzzy and distorted, and just too bass orientated, no matter how much you fiddle with the manual equaliser. There is not much clarity and it does not sound clear in the slightest! I'm thinking there is maybe a design flaw with the plastic speakers, who knows. With regret I will be returning it, and I wouldn't recommend. Don't be fooled by all the fancy tech that comes with this. At the end of the day it is all about the sound. I'm simply looking for something that has some good bass and good clarity and this is not it. Why are they so hard to find these days?? Any recommendations are most welcome!

Great bit of kit for the price
It does not sound bad, but the speakers do let it down a little. The speakers could do with a better cabinet as the base can tend to give a chipboard base thudding sound, not sure how to describe it, but that is probably sufficient. We have used this in the garden as although it is not small, it can easily be moved. The sound is fairly HiFi and in the garden it can easily provide enough power for a garden party without even being pushed anywhere near to its limits and the speakers sound better outdoors because the sound does not bounce back from the rear of the thin speaker backs.I love the USB connection and the DJ App where guests can select the nect songs to play by putting in requests. Also it has various on and off timers so can be used in the bedroom as an alarm clock, just remember to set the volume correctly!!Would I Buy Again? YES!

STONKING SYSTEM!!!!!
The media could not be loaded. Been wanting a "good looking" system 4 a while. Looked at lots b4 buying this particular one. Read the reviews 4 this item, a couple said there was too much bass. It helps if u take time 2 alter the settings!! This is not plug and play, but altering the system is very easy. The sound quality is amazing, remote very simple 2 work, the whole system is quality!! I have a USB stick plugged in2 mine. The hardest part has been filling the USB stick, still doing that lol. I would absolutely, 100% recommend this system. I LOVE IT!!!! Jane, very happy customer in Doncaster x
