Do you need shampoo to wash off?

A little goes a long way. To wash out fully shampoo. Would wash out with water but not fully.

Are there any alternatives that add shine?

I don’t know the answer to this, but I love American Crew. It may seem expensive for such a small jar, but you only need just a small amount so it lasts for a long time. I find it makes your hair look good without being greasy.

Does it have a sticky affect?

No quite the opposite actually. Powdery feel if to be honest. But I have to say after using it for a few weeks. I found myself having an itchy sensation on my scalp and thinking I had dandruff. I won't be buying it again if I'm perfectly honest. Hope this helps
