Simply put the best mouse I have ever used
This is a robust, versatile and comfortable mouse Major features for me - better build than Microsoft - comfort and versatility in use - unifying receiver - excellent battery life I've had used umpteen devices since my first pc over 20 years ago. I currently use a laptop and have 2 mice and a keyboard running faultlessly from 1 unifying receiver (M570 trackball, Performance MX mouse, and K360 keyboard). The M570 withstands everything I throw at it - the trackball is securely held in its socket and comes out with gentle coaxing when you eventually need to clean the three mini rollers that hold it in place. I have been very clumsy with this mouse and dropped it on the floor on more times than I remember (more than 20 in over 3 years of use). The mouse has hit the wooden floor with enough force for the trackball to bounce out - but I just put it back in and it is still working perfectly. I have found in general that Logitech mice have better longevity in use. Compared to the Performance MX mouse (which sits on my desk and has different functions assigned to its buttons - done easily with Logitech's software) it is a superior product for comfort and ease of use. The MX may track on glass; but it still requires a surface to operate on and much greater wrist / arm movement to use. The M570 is just easier and more comfortable. Logitech could improve the product by adding the functionality the MX has with scrolling (a button that enables free scrolling). They could also add extra thumb buttons adjacent to the trackball to increase versatility. There are two problems with the mouse : They do not make a left handed version (serious problem for lefties). You have to get used to using your thumb (water off a ducks back with practice).

Fantastic Device
I've had a previous version of the this - a Cordless Trackman Wheel for many years, but recently I made the mistake of putting a cheap battery in it, which leaked and killed it. I was so impressed with the long term reliability of the previous device that when I was looking for a replacement I felt compelled to go for this updated model rather than a different brand or style. I bought it from Pomegranate, with delivery to an Amazon Locker, and it arrived swiftly, brand new, as described. The M570 has lived up to my expectations completely. It's very comfortable, accurate, and feels as durable as my previous version, so I'm confident it will also last for many years. I haven't installed any additional software, just plugged in the discreet USB receiver, and let Windows do the rest. I just use it for the basic functions - moving the cursor, left and right clicking, and scrolling through documents with the wheel. This means the additional buttons (initially programmed for moving the page forward and back while web browsing) are superfluous for me at present, but maybe I'll try making use of them in the future. I've also made no attempt to re-program any buttons, as I've read is possible, maybe with additional software (not included - I assume that's something to download from Logitech). I love the freedom you get from a trackball device. I don't need to worry about what surface I'm going to use, so I can easily move my laptop to a desk, an armchair or even my bed, and not bother about an additional surface to roll a mouse around on. I think that for my purposes - mostly web browsing, document writing and programming - a trackball is ideal. If you are interested in certain games, or other uses that require faster movement around the screen, this is probably not going to suit you, but I can quickly and easily navigate around an extended desktop with no problem at all. Some general points: It comes with a battery (Duracell AA) already fitted and ready to use when you remove the plastic protection tab. It has an on/off switch, unlike my previous Trackman, and that device lasted for months on a single battery so I have high hopes that this will be even more efficient. There's also a little light that briefly flashes green when you switch it on, and I believe it will flash red when the battery is low. Finally, the USB receiver is discreet, as I mentioned before, with less than a centimetre protruding from the socket. You can keep it plugged in and still carry the laptop around with you quite easily, but if you want to remove it for any reason, there is a little slot for it in the battery compartment so that you can avoid the risk of misplacing it. I've been using the M570 for a couple of weeks now and I haven't had a single negative experience. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Works as advertised.
It's a trackerball mouse. The ball moves, the mouse stays put. Mine is part of my gaming rig, stuck to the side of my chair, where it falls easily to hand. In flight sims it's fun to fly keyboard free- I use pedals, a throttle, a high end joystick and now the trackerball. The ball allows me to select controls within the cockpit that I'd otherwise have to assign keyboard shortcuts to. It's very satisfying to look at a knob or lever and just adjust it on the fly, rather than having to memorise dozens of key strokes to achieve the same thing. It adds to the sense of immersion as well as easing my workload. It works particularly well with head tracking software and VR goggles. As a mouse it's fairly intuitive and will do pretty much everything a regular mouse does. It's worth considering if you have limited desk space or if you're carrying old injuries. My wrist was broken some years ago and I find it much more comfortable than the conventional mouse I have to use in work. I've given the 'battery life' five stars. That might change, the device is brand new! But I'm typing this on a Logitech keyboard and I've used wireless Logitech mice for years. They've all had excellent battery life, I don't see any reason why the trackerball would be any different. If the device does have any problems over the coming years I'll update this review. If there aren't any updates, you can take it that everything worked out just fine for me and my new purchase. Tl;dr. Good product, ideal for my needs.

I've been using Logitech trackballs since... OMG THAT LONG! Sept 1994 I went for an interview at a company for my first job in computer graphics - in this case label design. The owner sat me down at a desk with a trackball. What the hell is this thing? Needless to say I loved it and have been using a trackball ever since. Quite honestly I'd trade this USB version back to a corded one if I could still get it. At my desk it really doesn't matter and nothing worse than the couple days prior to your battery actually dying. LONG LIVE THE LOGI TRACKBALL!
