Haikyu!!, Vol. 1: Hinata and Kageyama: Volume 1

This is the first sport focused manga I have ever read and I have to say...it was great! From the very beginning it had me routing for Hinata as well as getting the ‘more to the person than meets the eye’ with his rival. Also liked being introduced to the older members of the Volleyball club, loved each of them for their own individual reasons. I’ve seen volleyball on tv and know the basic rules, and I found this very easy to follow and didn’t find myself getting confused or having to reread. Lastly this had me laughing. I’m glad I didn’t put volume 2 on my Christmas list because I don’t think I can wait that long to read it.

I actually read the entirety of this series digitally and can say its got quite an enjoyable cast of characters and has a good dynamic between the 2 leads (Hinata being the main character). It certainly is a completely new experience reading it physically and turning the pages yourself and the art looks so much cleaner than it tends to do in scans despite the book being relatively compact (maybe thats normal size for manga, I personally don't know but its honestly a good thing). If someone wanted to buy their first manga and wasn't against sports series this is where I would point them to.

I fell in love with the anime around a year ago and am so glad the manga has finally been released in English! The delivery was very fast and the book came in great condition! The art style amazing with brilliant protagonists and an overall brilliant plot to it. If you are looking for something new to read I highly recommend this!

This is a great volume of the Haikyuu manga, with nice and thick pages and a clean print. I love this series so much and recommend it strongly to anyone.

Haikyuu!! V1 is an excellent start for a sports manga. Viz's lineup has been heavily focused on basketball for years however they have slowly expanded to include more sports, for example, Cross Manga, which focused on lacrosse, and now Haikyuu!! with volleyball. Volleyball feels like a new frontier for western releases for manga and I believe it works. Furudate's accessible approach with the sport enables anyone to quickly get into it and understand the intricacies right from the first page. Using a novice as the main character of the volume works wonders in making this an easy to grasp read. High level concepts of volleyball are initially avoided and only introduced once the basics have been defined and even then with a lead character who may not understand it in the technical sense we are able to understand that which was said by seeing the character execute the concept. I enjoyed the introduction to high school boys volleyball club antics as well as the heartfelt story of crushed dreams and a new attempt to tackle those dreams after a high school debut. The many characters, from the senior members like the captain to the bickering first years, including the two leads, but also the glasses wearing snarky Tsukishima, there is much to love. Sure, not every character may be to someone's liking but I think they have excellent chemistry that is only bound to deepen further. Viz continues to translate and letter the sound effects, honorifics are kept as well, making for an easy to read volume. There were no color pages or extras beyond extra sketches and character profiles mixed into chapters.

Pensaba que era otra edición o algo por el precio y que en los datos pone que es de Simón & Schuster pero es la de VizMedia (como el resto de los tomos) y muy contenta. Ya había visto el anime y el manga es poco más o menos lo mismo, al menos en este tomo, pero me encanta
