10 Minute Solution - Pilates Perfect Body [DVD]

Not for beginners, but extremely effective
I have been using this frequently after deciding that I needed to improve my flexibility. I have done Pilates before, and although this is not pure Pilates, it provides amazing results quickly. I noticed that there have been a few negative reviews recently which prompted me to write this one, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I agree with some of the others that this one is not for beginners, there are other 10 Minute Solution DVDs which would be a better choice for someone just starting out and it helps to have a knowledge of the basics of Pilates. When I started out with this DVD I would say I was probably intermediate stage Pilates and reasonably fit, but I found some of the exercises quite challenging. But even just in a couple of weeks, doing 30 mins every other day and always finishing with the stretch session, I noticed a massive difference and it is so satisfying to now be able to do some of the "tougher" ones easily that were challenging only a few weeks previously. The only criticism I would have is that there is no warm up, but that's something that you can do yourself even if only 5 mins on a bike, running up and down some stairs or even just having a hot shower to get the muscles warm before using the DVD, as it's not good to be stretching cold muscles. What's great about this compared to other Pilates DVDs I have used is that you can pick and choose the segment(s) that you feel like doing on a particular day rather than working through a normal 45 minute DVD which as well as becoming a bit monotonous, takes up too much time. With this one, even if you did just one segment a day to begin with gives you the sense that you are actually achieving something. I really like the way the presenter comes across and it's useful that she seems to step in at the right stage to remind you that you should be pulling in your tummy, etc. She also makes it feel more fun than some of the other presenters on other DVDs I have come across.

Its only 10 minutes!
Although I'm not new to Pilates, its been a while since I've done any and to be honest I was expecting this DVD to be really easy- its only 10 minutes for each section. But dont be fooled! Although each section is 10 minutes (you can put them together and do 50 if you prefer) you really get the benefit. I believe they have chosen the most effective moves, and put them into one easy-to-fit-into-your-life section.I've often skipped the one hour long pilates classes at the gym due to the time they take out of your life and that they're usually at 8pm (which means you either excercise on a full stomach or eat really late- neither are my preference!) but this DVD means no excuses. In fact I've been setting my alarm 20 minutes early to get up and do 2 bits before work.I've bought some of the other 10 minute solution DVDs too which I would also recommend, but this one is my favourite, and mainly because you can really FEEL it working (my arms and legs are a bit achey this morning!) plus, if I do 10 minutes of this in the morning I'm less likely to eat junk during the day because I dont want to undo my hard work!!A number have reviews have said that this DVD is not for beginners but I would disagree with that- its fast paced yes (to fit all the moves into 10 minute slots) but its explained VERY well what she is doing, the breathing technique, where you should feel the muscles working etc. The benefit of a DVD is that you can skip back if you miss something or need to see it again but the moves are not at all too difficult and there are options offered if you are a beginner or less flexible. The only downside is that you should do the arms section with small handweights, which it doesnt make very clear until you put the DVD on. But if you dont have any, two tins of beans work just as well and you can do the excercises without the weights too.

No pain no gain. You will really feel it the next day...and the day after that too! A surprisingly effective workout
I have had this dvd a couple of weeks and am very new to pilates. I have only done the workout three times and literally only once a week but I feel I have improved already. I look and feel slimmer, I am slightly more flexible than when I began and I can keep up with the reps a bit easier now.The first time I did this workout I was in agony during and after but it was no surprise. I do mainly cardio with very little toning/strengthening. I would like to think I am reasonably fit. I work out a lot and got this to try and tone up (especially thighs and tummy). Anyway, when I first did the dvd I discovered muscles I never knew I had!! The burn was immense, especially in the legs and arms sections and the legs section really did give me that shaky leg syndrome so I had to stop to rest regularly. A few hours after doing the dvd I still had jelly legs but I thought it was fab as obviously the muscles had really been worked! Next day the real pain came. Legs and arms aching really badly and for another four days in fact. Abdominals felt like they had been worked but to a much lesser extent. So be warned. It looks easy and like you aren't doing much but don't let it fool you.I was hoping to be able to do this three or four days a week on top of my usual cardio but I'll have to work up to that. I didn't feel ready to give it another go until just over a week later and it wasn't half as bad. Nothing like the week before at all. This week I did it again for the third time and was able to do more repetitions of the exercises and although my muscles still burned like hell during the exercises I was only sore for one day after which you would expect. I haven't taken measurements or anything but I feel like my stomach has toned up a little bit. Don't get me wrong it is still there but this morning I definitely felt like it was less rounded when I looked in the mirror :-)I do look forward to doing this dvd and enjoy it every time I do it with a real sense of achievement on completion, but I didn't give it the five stars because personally I think there is a little too much work on the arms and upper body. Most of the exercises I struggle with are those where you have to hold your body weight and do pilates push-ups, reverse planks and such where you have to hold, lift and raise your own body weight while also needing a degree of flexibility (which I don't seem to have just yet). It is a bit too much on the arms, especially if you do the whole dvd in one go. Like I said, I'm not really familiar with pilates so I guess that must be the norm. Another point is that I thought there would be more exercises specifically targeting the stomach. I know you are activating your core the whole time but my tummy doesn't feel like it is worked half as much or challenged in the same way during the abs section compared to my arms and legs after doing the respective sections. I probably find the abs section the easiest out of all of them but who knows, maybe my technique is wrong? For me, section four (pilates silhouette I think it's called) is neither here nor there but it give me a couple of minutes for the burn to subside before it is turned right up again hehe. The stretch section at the end is absolutely wonderful and I really look forward to it after I've done the other sections. Even though my flexibility still isn't what it should be I have noticed a marked improvement in just a few sessions. This is a dvd that I can see myself doing for a long time on a regular basis. Suzanne Bowen is an excellent instructor and I am seeing/feeling the benefits after just three sessions. I am definitely sticking with this one!

Just Right! This 10 Minute Solution Pilates DVD is perfect! Suzanne does the workout by herself which makes following along very easy. It is a simple, quiet environment and Suzanne is easy to listen to. The segments are enjoyable and doable. What I find very appealing about this DVD is the fact that you can create your own personalized workout at the opening of the video and in the order you wish to exercise. Chose stretching to warm up, followed by the body part/parts of your choice to make the work out just 10 minutes or 30 minutes as you're day dictates. Whether your new to Pilates or have been doing it for years this is just a nice Pilates DVD to have in your library.
