Ideal for the DIY novice
Fear not ladies, this light weight low tech device will not over strain the feminine hand! Girls (and guys) unused to weilding mighty robust power tools will find that this nifty little drill will not over tax their dainty digits.Being a bit of a DIY numpty I was a little confused that the winding dueberry appeared to be on the wrong way around - then I had a lighbulb moment, this was just to enable it to fit into the packaging - it easily detached and re-attached the right way around. Then bingo, after practising making some holes in an old piece of wood to ascertain which drill dueberry made the right size hole (a bit like trying out lipsticks on the back of your hand girls) - I was away.I have now successfully erected some net curtains in my front window. Hurray, I can keep an eye on my nosey neighbours without being seen doing so - result. I did initially make a bit of an exhibition of myself standing on the window sill drill in hand but from this day forwards I can happily twitch my net curtain unobserved! You will need to purchase some drill dueberries as it is not supplied with any

Actually works!
I needed to do some minor gentle diy around the house.99% is in the home with power - 1% is down in the garage without power. This little hand drill has performed so much better than I expected.NOTE: I have only used it for masonary on the ... cement bits - not on the brick bits.I have put up loads (lots? Many>) simple 8mm drill holes around my home with minimum effort. The drill has hosted various masonary drill bits perfectly.I can not say one darn thing against this neat and useful drill.I am sure it would fail drilling a 400mm concrete wall. Luckily you aint buying it to try to do that :) CW

Useful tool
For years I've used an unbranded version of this drill, and it is very useful. In particular it can get into tighter spaces than traditional hand drills and it does not have that tendency to twist as you turn the handle. Because of all this I decided to buy another one to use at a different location. The Draper one was the most frequently available and was inexpensive if you looked around. Externally, the Draper drill is identical to my unbranded one (apart from the colour), but internally, I don't know. My unbranded one is totally smooth in operation, whereas the Draper drill has a tight point on each revolution. I unscrewed one half from the other in order to grease the (bevel) gears and see if there was any reason evident for this slight tightness at one point on each revolution. There was none that I could see. To be clear, this tight spot is fairly minor and will not make it harder to use the drill, it's just that it ought to be perfect. That's why I docked a star. The metal chuck works well. As with the unbranded drill, I dressed the corners of the flap closing off the spare drill bit compartment, to remove the sharpness and make the drill more comfortable. All in all I am happy with my purchase.

Great drill
Really easy to use and effective like a power drill for small jobs. We bought this for living on a boat where we only have a small electrics supply, so can’t use items over a certain wattage like power tools, hairdryers etc. this drill is great, the design makes it easy to handle and use and fits most drill bits.

Terrific!
Bear in mind I am not a joiner, or a handyman. All I wanted was a drill to make holes in drawers to accommodate new handles, to be able to drill a new hole in a curtain pole which I needed to shorten, and to drill into the wall to fix a heavy duty mirror. I looked at cordless drills, and to be honest they terrified me witless so I thought I would give this a go, reasoning that if it didn't work I hadn't spent much money. All I can say is this is terrific. I don't know how I managed beforehand - well, I do, I asked my dad to use his power drill! It tackles amazingly thick wood, at a slow and steady pace - no chance it can run away with you - and the 'pistol grip' means it doesn't wobble about. One word of caution. Don't expect - as I did - to use this 'out of the box'. It doesn't come with any drill bits at all so I needed to make a quick trip to the local hardware to buy some. Other than that, it's excellent.

Fiddly and unreliable chuck
The shape of this hand drill makes it quite easy to use, but the chuck is very fiddly and several times the drill bit stayed in the wood that I was drilling and came right out of the chuck. On a couple of other occasions, the chuck was really hard to unscrew and needed some WD40. When it works it's quite effective and I was able to complete the jobs that I had bought the drill for. I'll persevere with this for small jobs as I don't trust myself with an electric drill. I've only used it with drill bits for wood on wooden items. I don't know how effective this drill would be on other materials.

Less than adequate
First off the bat, no way is this worth the money charged, at best I’d say under a tenner. Secondly the gears are rough, turning the crank actually feels like you are grinding peppercorns and there is nothing smooth about the operation, in fact it sticks every single rotation. I could see this being marketed for children as their first hand drill what with it being super lightweight (it’s really only redeeming feature), but other than that I can not recommend this a for any other job. The plastic shell is terrible and I certainly don’t think it will last. The seam down the middle and all the way round is not flush and is kind of sharp especially in the grip area. Also the crank handle is only attached on a very shallow squared off lip and a tightening knob that only goes as tight as your fingers can manage. Any reverse turns of the drill loosens this nut and the handle comes away, it really needs a hex nut that can be tightened with a spanner. I would return it but I have taken it apart to see if adding machine oil would improve things. It did a little but not enough to justify or recommend this purchase.

Good kit: added grease
Simple to remove three screws, slide the black plastic ferrule off the end and lift the casing apart. As other reviews stated: the internal gears are bone dry, so I added White Lithium Grease (from Halfords) to the internal gears. Quieter and smoother action now gives me more confidence in the longevity of this rather tidy piece of kit. Recommend it.

Solido, funziona come previsto
