A good entry set for Amateur DMR
Picked up the MD380 as a bit of an experiment to give Amateur Digital Radio a try. Wasn't expecting too much from the handset - for just over Β£100 it seemed like a good entry into the world of DMR whilst weighing up other options for the future if I start to enjoy this method of communication. The item arrived from the supplier well packaged, and ahead of the delivery time estimate. Unboxing and everything was sold as described - the handset, two aerials, a programming cable, software and the charger cradle. The build quality is sound, although I'd prefer the belt clip fixing to be on the radio body, not the Li-Ion battery - which is something Tytera have actually improved upon with the MD 390. The software in the box has been replaced online by TYT, so I'd advise on downloading the latest version of the driver and programming software from them directly. I did have a little "fun" with the USB drivers - in the end opting to download a generic driver for the MD390 / GT-3 radios which share the same radio "innards".The manual is of no use when it comes to programming the handset, so make good use of google and the programming YouTube clips. Once you have your head around the talk-group, time slot and channel language - programming becomes easy. There are some great code-plugs already available, but I found it beneficial to use these as a template and then build up my own to suit my needs.Once uploaded with a UK codeplug, the radio swiftly came to life on my local repeater (GB7BH) and in minutes I was able to check operation with a Ham operator - in North America !I've been using it for a few days, and already enjoying the potential that DMR brings - the audio quality from the set is superb and reports from other stations indicate that it broadcasts clear audio as well.As an entry level into DMR, this is a good handset - With a DVMega and BlueSpot, it's also a great setup for portable / mobile use.

Top notch Digital handy, solid, and worth every penny (although 390 is now available with GPS I think)
A superb handy with a steep learning curve for the codeplug. If (like me) you've never created a codeplug, get one from the many groups on FB and the like, to play with. Get your local repeater information, colour code and attached talkgroups, plus register your callsign to get an ID. Try and do this before the radio arrives, or you'll be frustrated trying to get on air with digital till you do. If (like me) you don't have a local repeater up and running yet, consider a dongle to give you instant access on Brandmeister or the app (Hosepipe) that will allow you to listen to whats going on, and learn a lot at the same time. I use a DV4Mini plus Raspberry PI-3 and a Kydera 550 mobile (with Rapsberry in the car), also of course the MD-380 around the house and portable where signal permits.....Above all, Have fun!

A brilliant radio to get started with DMR
I got this radio as I wanted to venture into the digital side of things. I got a few of DMR GB7 repeaters local to me and this radio works brilliantly with them.It comes with two antennas but I replaced them with a small stubby SRH805S stubby aerial that works great on the UHF Band. There's plenty of codeplugs around online you can use if you aren't too sure on programming the radio. It comes with the USB cable to program the radio, and software is online. I installed the custom MD380Toolz firmware that allows enabled more functions like Promiscuous Mode, so you can listen to all talkgroups on the slot.

MD TYT MD 380
I wanted a cheap entry into the DMR world of radio, as im a ham radio user. I read the reviews of this radio and watched many you tube videos, decided to buy the Said item.It came with no damage, well done posty, and was in perfect order. The radio works very well, and for the monet a great buy, but the rotory knob, the channel selector, is a bit clunky, but putting that aside all is good.Would I buy again from this company....yes..oh lastly the cd rom is a complete waste of time, all info can be downloaded from tyt website and others, this radio also has a dedicated Facebook page, so come and join us and we will help you in anyway we can, 73.

Was working great ...
Was working great for a fortnight until it suddenly died. The audio quality became very broken and quiet regardless or Digital or Analog usage. To be fair the supplier refunded immediately, great service from them. I also have an RT3 so I'm holding off ordering another MD-380 for a while. It seems to be the radio of choice for most Amateur DMR users as there are a wealth of codeplugs out there for it.I have only ever heard great reviews for the MD-380 so I accept that this issue may have been a one-off manufacturing fault so it would be interested to see if any others has suffered the same fate?

Nice starter radio, but there are issues.
After hours of reading and experimenting, I think I can say something about this product now. It's fantastic for starter DMR, but due to its price you can expect some bugs here or there. First of all one of my radio's clock is running fast, like 10min error per day, the reason this is serious is that there might be something wrong with the clock oscillator, and cause issues with TDMA modulation. Second, the tone's volume is not adjustable, stays the loudest regardless of the volume knob, so any earphones are out of the question now. Other than these, it's a nice starter, after familiarising yourself with DMR, go for a motorola one.

This is a great radio, Great build quality and loads of support ...
This is a great radio, Great build quality and loads of support on Utube and from other DMR users. I believe this is the most popular radio out there so I got one.I also own the GD77 and I can not decide which I prefer. It is not duel band but I wanted it for DMR anyway duel band would be a nice addition.

Great little radio
This is an amazing radio for the price. You need to program the memories which is best done using the software and cable provided. It can be used for both the digital and analogue repeaters, as well as simplex transmissions on the amateur radio frequencies. Nice clear audio on digital using my local repeater. Very good value for money.
