Only use on the hob
This does NOT work in a washing machine but when I did it on the pot on the cooker it worked immediately. DO NOT USE THIS IN A WASHING MACHINE AS IT DOES NOT WORK.

Actually made things worse when used in the washing machine. Rit throws good money after bad
My favourite white bath towels became an insipid green when a cheap tea towel got into the wash. Rit made things worse and was a total waste of money. I followed the instructions for using a front-loading washing machine. I used 2 packs of Rit for 2 bath towels (small load) ran the hottest cotton wash. Whilst the dye has marginally lessened overall (now a chewing gum grey/green) it's far from a win because there's now very obvious dirty dark green stains and streaks scattered across the towels. I can only assume this where the towels reabsorbed the dye. These dark green stains are actually more concentrated areas of colour than existed before. If Rit worked 2 packs of dye would have been cheaper than replacing the towels. If I were judging the amount of dye that has been removed I'd say it would take another 2-4 packs to remove all the offending dye from the towels. However, there's no point in even attempting this if the towels reabsorb the dye in streaks in a washing machine. Rit might work on the stove, but not in the washing machine. It also stinks even if you do ventilate.

WORKS LIKE A CHARM!
IT DOES WORK!! if you’ve tried everything, then at least give this a go. I used the boiling water on a hob method, based on the reviews i do not think anything but this will give good results. use at least one pack per item, i used boiling kettle water and poured the powder on top. straight away i could see the dye being removed! i followed the instructions and let it boil for 20 minutes, you may need more. what i think is going wrong for some people is that they’re using too much water (which a washing machine will do) and it’s diluting the powder, making it ineffective. i used a small pot and filled it with just enough water to allow it to be stirred with a spoon. definitely worth the money!

It works!
I had some dyed pure wool yarn (150g) which I wanted to lighten and re-dye. I didn't think it was working and then the original dye suddenly disappeared. I was then able to re-dye it to the shade I wanted without any effect on softness. I used a slow cooker to maintain the temperature. Just be warned - you need a well ventilated room as it does smell awful!

It takes more bags to fade!
I've used this brand's dyes before and found them fabulous. However, this time, I dyed a pair of pants and a linen dress in Taupe, using half the package, but they turned out too dark, leaning toward purple. I tried the Rit Color Remover process, which lightened the color slightly but didn't bring it back to white as promised. I wanted to redye again, but I still achieved the result because now the pants and dress are a lighter beige, just as I wanted. However, I probably should have used two packages. I just didn't realize there was only one package in the package! I washed everything in the washing machine following the instructions, using a 60° wash cycle.

Excellent product.
This stuff is amazing, but be warned. Use the stove top method with really hot water. It says to stir for 20 minutes. It worked in 2 minutes. I persisted for 6 minutes, but it was pointless as all of the colour had been stripped and i had an off white jumper that used to be black!

works perfect
amazing. i ruined a bunch of clothes with a bright blue towel. i did the pot method and all of the items of clothing were fixed instantly. i didnt need to do the 20 minute swirl. just dip and they were brand new again. on some of the items the original dye was lightened but it was a much better outcome than the blue bleed.

Utterly Amazing
Incredibly brilliant product - used the stove top method on a cotton/polyester shirt which had been unsuccessfully dye twice. Within minutes the latest colour had gone and after the full 20 minutes the initial dye had been reduced to near zero.

Good for lightening the colour of my cotton skirt
Really like this product, as it did a great job of lightening the dark purple colour of my long cotton skirt to a medium purple colour. Just dissolved the package's content into hot (not quite boiling) water in my kitchen sink and then submerging the skirt in the very hot water. After about ten minutes the colour remover had lightened the shade to a more summery lighter purple colour. Very happy with the results and would recommend it for lightening the colour of already dyed cotton clothes.

This stuff really works!
I accidentally ruined a load of my favorite white shirts by washing them with a small white sock that had a light red band. Everything came out with a pink tint—I was so bummed! My mom suggested I try this product, and it was amazing. The first time, I didn’t follow the directions exactly, so it didn’t remove all the color. But it worked well enough that I could tell it had potential. I bought more, followed the directions to a T, and I’m so glad I did! It completely removed the pink tint from my white shirts—they look brand new. I also used it on some older white tees and button-downs that had yellowed over time due to age, hard water, and sweat stains around the collar and underarms. For those, I had to go through the process twice. While they didn’t come out looking brand new, the yellowing faded significantly—they now look great and are totally wearable again. Highly recommend if you're trying to rescue white clothes!
