Very good DIY chainsaw
I used this chain saw to cut down a 4 story fur tree over 3 weekends. Light and easy to use. I was a bit worried that I should have bought a petrol model but was pleasantly surprised that it had the torque to fairly easily cut through the main tree stump a number of times (stump was about 1,5 times the blade length). After the tree was felled I used the chainsaw to cut up all the wood into lengths for fire wood. All in all it had a good work out and the blade is still sharp (never let the blade touch the ground or it will instantly blunt it). Some items to remember:- It comes with about 100ml of chainsaw oil, but you will have to buy more chainsaw oil if you are going to use the chainsaw for more than 2-3 hours. Pour the oil in very slowly as pouring it too fast it will form a "bubble block" in the neck and spill over instantly.- Watch out for the electric cable, it has a habit of being in the wrong place when cutting; (ask my wife she cut though it :-), I used solder heat shrink to patch the cable and it still works fine)- I did not spot it in the manual, but it was pictured on the box, the top hand guard in the all the way forward position is a cut out, you need to pull it back towards you for the power to be on. I used this safety feature as an additional safety switch when climbing around the tree with the chainsaw in hand.- Assembly out of the box is fairly easy, just make sure that you check that the chain is oriented in the right cutting direction (ie not positioned with the cutting blades backwards, there are pictures in the manual ;-))Having put it through its paces, I will highly recommend this chainsaw.

Excellent machine
Read and follow the instructions carefully. It is worth reading through all the safety information even though it is long. Assembly instructions consist of diagrams primarily but are clear if you go slow. Wear gloves to handle chain as it is very sharp. You will need to purchase additional chain oil when making a purchase as the initial supply is just 100 ml - good for 20-40 minutes instructions say. Once done you have a 16 inch chainsaw that cuts beautifully. Clean powerful cut. Love the safety kickback shut off which stops saw blade dead whilst engine still runs until you release power - very easy to work with. Used so far for cutting up to 7 inch dia. logs in hard wood with no problems. Note that vines / undergrowth less than 75mm should not be cut according to manufacturers instructions. Also not suitable for use up a tree or on a ladder. Good length power lead but will need extension cable to give scope for wider movement. 2 year warranty on the machine I bought. Note other reviewers comments on using Oregon parts to replace chain / bar as confirmed at back of manufacturer's instructions.

Very good chainsaw
I use a Stihl petrol chainsaw and also this electric one, so I can compare them. The only way in which the petrol machine is better is that it can be used anywhere, whereas the electric one needs to be within reach of a 240 volt electricity supply. The electric chainsaw is better in all other ways, in my experience. It does not give off toxic smoke and gases. No need to go to the garage to get a can of petrol. No need to keep topping the machine up with fuel. It's always ready and always starts effortlessly (just press a button). The chain stops instantly when the button is released, a good safety feature (on the petrol machine, the chain runs on for a while). The motor is maintenance-free. Don't believe reviews that say electric chainsaws lack power - this one is more than 3HP (746 watts = 1 HP). The construction is very strong. Chain tension adjustment is easy. I only reduced my review to 4 stars because the oil filler hole is rather small, so filling it is slow.

No longevity with 2 of these Ryobi chainsaws
I searched the internet and Ryobi RCS2340 seemed to get the best reviews online.I went ahead and purchased it. It felt sturdy and it worked well to cut wood and seemed easy to use with intermittent use but on occasion the chain slipped off. After a year or so the chainsaw stopped oiling the chain making it impossible to cut any wood.I contacted the seller who referred me to Ryobi customer support, who eventually sent a replacement however after about 10 mins using the replacement to cut some firewood it stopped working. I sent it back to Ryobi but they refused to repair it as the said it was burnt out.A very disappointing sequence of events with 2 Ryobi chainsaws so I couldn't recommend purchasing them

Simply outstanding
Simply outstanding. It is very powerful and I have used it to cut huge logs with ease. I cannot recommend this chainsaw highly enough.Clearly a petrol chainsaw is more convenient if you're working more than 50 meters from a power source, but fortunately most of our pruning and logging is done within about 50 meters of a power source. I use a petrol chainsaw for stuff further away, but actually prefer this Ryobi chainsaw in general and use it whenever I can just for the sheer simplicity and pleasure! It also has none of the major aggro with maintenance that comes with the petrol chainsaws.
