Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honour. Bridesmaids is the pinnacle of modern comedy.
Bridesmaids is the pinnacle of modern comedy. Comedy not being my genre (at all!) I always go into one with extremely low expectations. I remember watching this for the first time and was blown away at how much it entertained me. I may have only laughed once or twice, which in itself is an achievement for a cold soulless individual like myself, alas I couldn't help but smile throughout its runtime. Now approximately on my tenth viewing, I still can't wipe that grin off my face. The story is pretty formulaic, a group of bridesmaids trying to outdo each other in order to be the greatest friend to the bride. What sets this apart is the smart writing. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo outdid themselves. The dialogue is on point. Not once, not twice, all the time. There isn't a single line here that made me think "ohhh actually that didn't work". Sure the narrative is filled with scenarios that's just asking for slapstick comedy, but that's a given in any film of the genre. Whether it be the airplane fiasco, driving recklessly to get the attention of a police officer or the food poisoning bridesmaids outfit fitting scene (which, can I just say, is one the funniest moments ever). It all works! The genius writing makes for some memorable characters. Each bridesmaid has a different personality and are able to bounce off each other beautifully in order to create the laughs. All of the actresses were perfect, like honestly the best casting choices available. Kristen Wiig was painfully good. Rose Byrne is always a favourite of mine. Maya Rudolph was surprisingly funny. Even our very own Chris O'Dowd was spot on! Melissa McCarthy obviously was the standout. Director Paul Feig owns modern comedy, and Bridesmaids proves this. Some of the scenarios are stretched out for slightly too long in an attempt to force some more laughs. And apart from the formulaic plot, I defy anyone to say they didn't enjoy this...even on the smallest of scales! It's just fun to watch and has reinvigorated comedy. Perfect if you're feeling down or want a good laugh with friends.

VERY FUNNY,BUT A LITTLE DESPERATE.
I had mixed feelings about watching this, but went for it and though i can see why some would hate it,i did find most of it funny. It's seen as the best comedy for ages by many,i simply cannot agree. A film about a thirty something woman sleeping with a moron because she's losing self worth, life gets worse, then she gets the job of maid of honour to her best friend. There are a lot of scenes that are bound to get most people laughing so long as very crude humour doesn't offend...and the humour is very crude. I half expected to hate this movie, truth is,i just hated some of the characters. For me,the main character is annoying and hard to sympathize with,i just feel she should've been played by a much funnier actress, someone naturally funny rather than desperate to be seen as funny. A lot of the jokes could be seen as desperate for laughs, but most of them do manage to actually be funny, such as the scenes where the 2 main friends of the bride to be are trying to get one over on each other and the food poisoning results. The cop i found very likable and some of the other charcters came across well if perhaps a little overplayed, but some, such as the f***buddy just had me shaking my head that people like this really do exist, but i suppose that's just the actor doing his job.All in all,i'm not as impressed as most, but will hold my hand up to laughing quite a lot even if i refuse to see it as brilliant. So 4 stars because i enjoyed it for the most part, but at the moment,i just don't see it as a 5 star film.

Theres a colonial woman on the wing!
Just one of many split your sides, cry/die with laughter lines from this absoloutley hilarious but alsotouching film. I just saw this tonight and Oh Jesus what an amazingly funny film. It seems so rare thesedays that you get a film thats so naturally funny, it doesn't feel forced or posed. Its some amazing actresseswho are allowed to be outrageous and funny without it becoming just dumb. Its a shame that often films relyon just being silly to get a laugh and although neither I nor my friends have ever said "I'm so glad he'ssingle cause I'm gonna climb him like a tree" it is still realistic and doesn'h have to go wacky out thereto get a lugh. So refreshing to see some strong female roles who have mouths and aren't afraid to use them. Also MELISSA McCARTHY you are a genious. I loved her in Gilmore Girls and no way was I expecting this part fromher. She was so completely different and it just shows what an incredible actress she is, and such a natural comictoo, she delivered her lines with such deadpan humour I thought I was gonna give myself an injury from laughing sohard! And the lead Kristen Wiig, what a talent, she wasn't just the main character (and an excellent one at that)shealso co-wrote and produced the film. This is definately one I'll be getting on DVD so if you can't get yourselfdown to the cinema then get the girlfriends round, something very alcoholic and maybe even some Cream Puffsfor a rip-roaring night of laughs with your future Bridesmaids!

Rom com with excellent cast and some good characters
I don't usually go for rom coms but this one is great. All the cast are great and it has Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson in too who are both excellent. The romantic interest (male) has the weirdest accent ever...i think he might be meant to be Irish? Or Canadian? Or Australian? Not really sure...anyway - it's a good film
