The WatchBP Home-A Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor is a cutting-edge device designed for accurate blood pressure measurement and AFIB detection. With a sensitivity of 97%-100% and specificity of 89%, it ensures reliable results. The monitor features automated data tabulation for easy tracking and is validated for use during pregnancy. It comes with a medium cuff but offers additional sizes for a perfect fit.

The best
This is a review of one supplied to me by the hospital but I had to return it to them so I bought a replacement. These monitors are supposed to be the most accurate and most relable on the market. That is my experience too. Nothing to say about the cuff which works fine. However, launching the monitor with the start button seems to a be a bit fiddly (maybe I should read the the manual) and the PC link didn't seem to work (or I couldn't make it work, anyway). Overall, though, very fine monitor.

Great quality and easy to use
I have found this BPM very easy to use and seems to be quite accurate. My doctor is now happy to use my readings as a check as the readings in the surgery can be affected by the "white coat syndrome".Haven't test the PC link yet but it looks easy enough.Worth spending a little extra to get this version as the cheaper ones and the wrist based ones are very difficult to use as are inaccurate.

Unfit for purpose - too many errors
I tried two of these, as I wanted a machine that could detect atrial fibrillation (AF), from which I occasionally suffer, and ended up sending them both back. Both machines failed to provide readings about 3 times out of every 4 measurements, yielding an error, Er 2, every time they failed. This machine operates by taking an average of 3 readings, each reading being a slow process. On activating the machine, there is a 15 second countdown, then the cuff inflates, sometimes to pressures well in excess of 200 mm Hg, which is quite painful (guidelines for manual sphygmomanometers suggest 180 mm Hg max!), then the pressure is released slowly to take the two readings (systolic and diastolic). Often, the pump will reactivate half way through and increase the pressure again during the reading. This process is then repeated two or more more times, before an average reading is displayed. Three quarters of the time, all that is displayed is Er 2 – an error. Sometimes, it was quite clear that a reading had failed, but the machine still went on to repeat the cycles, sometimes 4 times, before displaying Er 2. A machine that only works once every 4-5 times and gives errors 70-80% of the time is useless. I have gone back to my cheap Lloyds machine which has never failed, though it doesn’t have an AF detector. These machines are unfit for purpose, in my opinion.

Excellent but there is one flaw
Excellent but there is one flaw. When there is an error in the set of readings they (correctly) do not display on screen but however the data is stored and then (incorrectly) used in the averages.

No good if you've got a pacemaker
While the BP monitor element of this is very thorough, people should note that the AFIB facility, according to the instruction manual may not detect AFIB in people with pacemakers or defibrillators - and goes on to say that people with pacemakers or defibrillators should not use the WatchBP Home A to detect atrial fibrillation.
