Great introduction
Clear concise and succint. Perfect for someone that has an interest in the subject but didn't want to trawl through 100s of pages of philosophical debate. This presents what you need to have a passing knowledge and gives you enough to Google/ponder later.

Great work!
This was quite an interesting work on Philosophy of Science, a interesting subject which should really be more well known, as so many assume that Science and philosophy have no relation. In the short space of the book a lot of different material is covered, from logical empiricism to realism vs anti-realism to philosophical issues that pertain to specific scientific disciplines. My only criticism is that the discussion Karl Popper somewhat simplified his philosophy.

Good - but his understanding of Karl Popper needs work
Just got this so far so good. However on page 14 he offers a criticism of Karl Popper's falsification theory of science, which if it were offered by a schoolboy, would get an F. He says that because Uranus didn't seem to obey Newton's laws in its orbit of the sun (the reason for this was the gravitational influence of Neptune) Popper's response would have been to treat Newton's laws of motion as disproved! Dear Lord! This really should be corrected in future editions.

I picked up this volume in the “Very Short Introductions” series and was amazed how clear, concise and thorough The Philosophy of Science is. The book is organized and written in a way that makes both simple and complex subjects easy to grasp. The author, Samir Okasha, is careful not to prejudice the reader with his own views. He presents issues and debates in a fair, evenhanded manner. Very highly recommended.
