Amazing filter top marks all round
We bought this as the filter we had was not doing a great job water was never crystal clear. Bought the u2 and over night the water was clear. The pictures added to this review are from this weekends water change/aqua scaping. The water got super cloudy due moving the sand about. With in a few hour a noticeable difference. This morning the tank was crystal clear. Out water is dark due to new wood tanens being in the water. But the water its self is beautifully clear. Quiet filter and easy to use. It is quite a big filter. We have ours hidden behind some wood. The three settings for bottom middle or top flow is great to have. Easily removed for filter changes. I cant recommend high enough. You can feel the quality. If you order this get a eu to uk convertor plug as mine came as an eu plug and not a uk one. Wasnt an expensive add. Even that doesnโt take away for how great the filter is

Must have !
Best in tank filter Iโve had. Bought as original tank filter went down in my 130l , the pros of this filter are - -super quite , hardly any noise -smart looking / blends in / fits nicely -3 different spray modes (top , bottom or middle for gentle flow) So easy to use / setup and for maintenance The water is really really clear with the active carbon in the filter , it comes with ceramic media too which is a bonus Overall really good filter , highly recommend this in tank instead of external canister

Perfect for around 15 gallons
I purchased this filter for an tropical aquarium with a 14/15 gallon capacity. The dimensions of the aquarium is (h)30cm x (d)30cm x (w)60cm. I find that this filter is the perfect size for the aquarium with a strong flow that can be slowed down and enough filtering gallon per hour to deal with the waste in the aquarium. In this tank I have: - x1 platy (male) - x1 sword tail (male) - x1 betta (female) - x2 albino corydora - x5 neon tetra - 6 Assassin snails - Plants - A few Amazon sword - Floating Water wisteria - Quite a lot of Java fern on bog wood - About 1/6th of the aquarium has guppy grass covering the area - 3 Marimo moss balls I find that with this set up I only need to do a 25% water change every 1 and a half weeks or longer and I still have water that is clear and to the correct parameters. The flow can be changed into five or more different directions depending on how you think about it and also features a venturi pipe to pull air bubbles into the water I find I have the flow on the top outlet pointing downwards towards the bottom of the tank with the venturi pipe working. This provides the surface agitation needed for aerated water and the surface free from too much food debris. The whole unit is removable from the working pump to be able to clean the impeller which is essential. Offering 3 different filter types this is one of the best in-tank filters on the market. the pump pulls water down through two sponges on each side of the filter, through filter floss and filter carbon then through ceramic biological filtration and out. To clean the filter media the filter then leans forward off of the tank wall and you can remove the sponges in their plastic holders from the top. Pros - Venturi - Nice looking - 3 stage filtration - Gph - Fluval good brand - Different angle and direction outlet Cons - Can not have flow from more than one of the different options unless you modify it with a drill - Flow could be too much for a male betta but the three centre settings should be slow enough Notes - I was originally going to get the u3 for the tank but it proved too big. This size really is the best internal filter you can get for its size.

Good filter, but frustrating to service
This is an update. I bought this filter in 2013, and the thoughts listed below are those I had after ten months of use, but before I list them, I should say it has given me five years of good service, which is pretty good. It is still working, but I have decided to retire it as the coating on the wiring was getting very 'iffy' after having been threaded in and out of the clips so many times, and the last thing one wants, of course, is to be electrocuted. So, in addition to my other thoughts about it, I would suggest that you do test the coating on the wiring, just to make sure it is not wearing thin. I originally gave it three stars, but for length of service, I have upgraded it to four. I have a 160L tank with five fancy goldfish (body length 7-8 cms) that have also been in the tank for most of that time. I also have an Eheim 160 pickup filter in it, each acting as backup for the other, but both are still going, although lately I have been using the Eheim to add API Aqua Detox filter to try to reduce the nitrate levels -- my only water-related problem. As far as the Fluval U4 is concerned, the only problems I have with it is when I need to rinse it out. Perhaps these don't sound too bad, but when you are dripping water everywhere, speed is important, and this is time-consuming, and frequently frustrating if you don't happen to have the right tools on hand. First of all, the top is impossible to remove without a lever of some sort. Once that is removed, if you are simply rinsing out the sponges -- I don't bother with the carbon filters unless I think the water could do with a bit of polishing now and again -- you can leave the filter where it is, and lift them out and rinse them in tank water you've removed (obviously), before returning them to their slots, the same with the biological media. However, if you find the filter running slowly because the impeller needs cleaning, that's a whole different ball game, because you'll need to remove the whole unit from the tank. In order to remove the impeller section from the rest of the filter, you will need to unhook the electrical cord from the upper section, a real hassle when you come to the top clip, and even more of a hassle when you go to replace it after cleaning. Cleaning the impeller and its housing, something that needs to be done at least once a month (goldfish are messy), is relatively easy providing you have pipe cleaners or a bunch of Q tips handy, but then you have the task of replacing the electrical cord in all its little clips, and the top one, as I said, is a real hassle as it will go in only if the cable is sideways on, then must be twisted to flat position to hold it there, all made more frustrating because everything is not only wet, but slimy. Getting this right is essential, though, because if the cable is not seated properly in its clip, then the whole unit will not clip into the frame holding it flat against the tank, and trying to force it, will no doubt break the clip, as happened to one of the other reviewers. One other problem I find it with the knob that determines flow and direction. It can be quite easily moved around, and if it slips out of position, it can stop the flow altogether. Other than sticking my hand in the water to check that it's still working, I have to rely on the movement of nearby plants to judge the level of flow. As a filter I have no problems with it, nor with the Eheim if it comes to that, but for ease of cleaning I'd go for the Eheim.

Damaged box, dirty filter, EU plug
Tldr - damaged box, dusty filter, EU plug. Don't buy if you are in desperate need as will likely end up returning it. Bought one 5 years ago that has finally packed in. Needed a lther filter and as this worked great ordered the same thing. 1st one delivered and the package was damaged, but hey never mind these things happen. Took filter out of box...and it was covered in dust. Again, never mind, I need it and will give it a clean. Thats when I noticed it has an EU plug. Wtf! Returned straight away and decided to buy it again - thinking I must have been unlucky. Managed to get same day delivery - result! Nope, it turned up and box was damaged again, but not as bad as the one I just returned. Took filter out box, was dirty again, but not as bad. Then checked the plug....EU socket. Now tank been without a filter for 2 days. Now going to pets at home and getting what ever I can.

Excellent filter, NOT so excellent Carbon / Filter Pads.
Excellent filter, NOT so excellent Carbon / Filter Pads. This filter becomes 200x better if you don't use the Fluval Carbon / Filter Pads; - Instead purchase a huge roll of Filter wool & a bag of Carbon (much cheaper than the fluval stuff). - Then cut the Filter Wool down to the size of the cages that slide in and out and push it firmly into place. - Then the blue cage that holds the Ceramics place some carbon inside of it too (DO NOT over fill it) I used this Filter for around 8 months with Fluval made filter media etc and it was only "ok" decided to purchase the above items and design my own way of filtering my water by modifying this filter and it works extremely well, keeps my tank so much cleaner and keeps the filter itself working much more efficiently and requiring less maintenance. NOTE: When cleaning this filter you MUST fully disassemble it to clean it effectively otherwise you will get problems as the pump mysteriously not working, other buyers have experienced this issue and blamed the filter for braking when actually all it needs is a proper clean. Do a quick Youtube search for how to clean the Fluval U2 and you will find lots of videos explaining clearly how to do this. Overall this filter gets 5* because it is an excellent filter but is let down by the products Fluval has designed to work with it. Hope this helps anyone having issues with this Filter.

Ottimo prodotto.

An excellent filter
I had a cloudy aquarium with a filter priced 400 rs. It had to run for a week to make the water clear and the water flow was strong which made the fish hard to swim on their own. But this filter does magic. With in some hours after installation, the water became crystal clear. The flow is very smooth too.

Works well
Just installed it and it works well so far. Easy to install and set up. I have a 20gal fresh water planted with guppies and a betta. I had to get some foam to put in the in and out valves just to avoid any accidents with fins or fry, but so far so good. Nice and quiet. The flow can be adjusted to your fishes liking.

Good product and fast delivery
I'm very happy with the Fluval U4 and it was delivered quick. However the top piece was already broken when I opened it and it smelled kind of used? I do not know how to contact the seller but i prefer it a bit broken then send it back etc. so I keep it like this. Fast delivery which amazed me!
