Lightweight Personal DAB/FM Radio
I realised it was time to retire my 15 year old Fergusson personal DAB when some of my favourite radio stations moved over to the new DAB+ system and I settled on the Majority Petersfield after researching online reviews. This is a basic model, but that was all I really needed for its main use on the daily commute. There aren't any tone or eq settings, but use any decent headphones and you will hear good quality audio.Set up was easy, mostly automatic with a bandscan as soon as I powered it up quickly finding and storing all the DAB stations. The scan stored all the DAB+ stations I was unable to get on my previous radio. The Petersfield has a basic but nice bright display. A 10 station preset feature is simple to use with just a press and hold and further press to store favourites.I hadn't heard of Majority until I bought this. It seems to be an online company based in Cambridge who name the models in their range of audio products after areas of the city, their range resembling premium quality at a budget price.

A fantastic DAB and FM radio at a great price.
Just received this little pocket radio and my intitial impressions are ....fantastic. Let me be clear, I live in the far north, in the Northern Isles of Orkney and only half expected it to recieve DAB stations. ( I only get the main BBC ones anyway, however I really prefer Radio 4, % and Scotland). The device came fully charged and ready to go. On switching on, it automatically found my DAB stations, all 11 of them, and they were crystal clear. I walked around to see if the signal would degrade, nope. Then I quickly changed mode into FM and again it found all my available stations, with no reception issues, sound quality is very good. The device itself looks very good, buld quality appears top notch. The device is small and light, and appears to be very ergonomic. All in all, I am very impressed with this and hope to have many enjoyable listening hours with it.

Great little piece of kit, but it is what it is.
I like to do a bit of walking and I'm a big radio fan.I found listening to DAB on my mobile eats into my monthly data.So this little thing was ideal for me.Quality of sound is good enough for my needs, it's only lost signal once, and holds out well, it might go a bit squelchy if you're passing some sort of high vehicle or scaffolding, but it's negligible. On talk only stations it can sound a bit tinny/buzzy on some stations, but haven't noticed this on music channels.Nothing to make it un-listenable anyway. It's a basic handset, no bass or treble etc, the 10 presets are handy. You can charge it through your PC or Laptop and it lasts for hours. Also, I plugged it into my cars USB and it worked immediately, so free DAB in your car, I haven't noticed it losing signal whilst driving locally, not driven using it on a long journey. You must have the headphones in to act as an antenna, but it comes through the car speakers fine. All in all, great for the discounted price, and suits my basic needs.

Budget priced Portable and rechargeable DAB.
I was a little dubious when I ordered this item. DAB, ariels, notoriously bad reception, drop out etc etc. I live in North Lincs area where the overall reception for anything is at best poor, I think they call it "The Forgotton North". I needed something I could carry round, re-charge and stuff in my pocket to listen to news and 4xtra when out walking my dogs. I looked at the competition but could not justify the extra cost involved so, I plumped for this lovely looking little unit. I must say I am well chuffed. It's simple to operate and does everything you need it to do and as I said, it looks great. The reception is second to none, the wire of the earphones is the ariel, it's light and fits snugly into a pocket. It has perfectly adequate talk/play time from the battery and charges quickly from my IQ charger via a micro USB cable. If I have to be picky, my only gripe is that you can't adjust the bass and treble, I have tried several sets of earphones but all sound the same. For a budget portable DAB, it's a cracker.

Good bits and bad bits
Purchased to replace a Roberts FM/AM portable radio, chose this mostly because it has a rechargeable battery (the Roberts DAB equivalent does not). So: the good bits. It's very portable and the DAB sound, when there is decent reception, is excellent (but then isn't all DAB sound good?); and it does have that rechargeable battery, necessary because DAB radio notoriously has heavy power consumption - daily recharge not uncommon with the Petersfield. Sadly, though, there are some not-so-good bits. The arrangement of the control 'buttons' is, in my opinion, not very user-friendly. They are small and clustered together which makes it too easy to push the wrong one; and this is coupled with the fact that you need to use the illuminated display to see what you've done. For instance, when selecting a pre-set DAB channel you have to push the 'Enter' button (and hope you haven't selected the 'Lock' function instead, which is effectively on the same 'button'), then scroll through your pre-selects on the screen until you get the one you want. For anyone with impaired vision I imagine this might be a nightmare, if not impossible, to manage (you only know if you've pushed the correct button by referring to the display). Further, the Volume buttons are located too close to the 'Enter/Lock' button, so unless you are blessed with very small fingertips(or use your fingernails!) I found it difficult to choose the button I wanted. If the manufacturer decides to revise the design I hope they choose to separate and enlarge these control buttons (I have to say that my Roberts FM/AM is exemplary in this respect, it can be operated in the dark to choose pre-selects and adjust the volume). The other 'not-so-good' with the Petersfield is the very bright display, which is permanently on - not helpful if you're using the radio in bed, at night, because you're dazzled when you need to use the display to ensure you're pushing the correct one of those very small and too-close-to-each-other buttons. It's unfortunate that, for me, there are these negatives because the unit seems to be well put together and, as noted, the DAB quality is very good if you're in a good reception area.
