High End, Versatile, Powerful; Competitively Priced
Extremely versatile power house audio/video receiver for an exceptional price. My 15 year old Yamaha receiver was working fine but the video / sound processing standards were out of date with the new 4K/8K TVs and newer sound technologies. The RX-A6A Aventage has all the latest HDMI standards along with a ton of video and sound processors Yamaha is famous for. It has 150 watts power across 9 channels which is more than the average household will use. I always buy receivers at the higher end so they can handle most any setup I need with power to spare. I have large front speakers as part of a 5.1 surround system. I have a second outdoor zone with 4 outdoor Bose speakers. I also have a Sonos system to drive other units in more rooms. I play movies through a Blu-ray player and Apple TV and a Cable Box. This receiver handles all of this with ease plus has intelligent HDMI switching to help simplify powering on the receiver for the proper device. The user is online but is extensive and searchable. The remote is reasonably straight forward and has buttons that can be programed to turn certain components on with various parameters like which HDMI inputs/outputs, speakers etc. There are many surround processing options to simulate various concert halls, churches, jazz clubs, of all sizes. This is a receiver for serious audiophiles that are not into simple front sound bars. It has bluetooth, wifi, Apple Air Play and Music Cast options. It also has a nice easy to use user interface that displays on the TV that helps you set up your receiver and navigate the multitude of options. I found the price on Amazon to be more competitive across the board. I highly recommend this receiver.

Better than all the competition
This receiver surpassed all my expectations. I am a long time, Yamaha fan and this was a replacement for the A-10 80. It has higher quality DACs and the sound field with Dolby. Atmos is very impressive. The only drawback that I see is the MusicCast app which replaced the Yamaha app on your phone. Unfortunately, the music cast app is not intuitive or user-friendly. You can get used to using it, but it is not what it should be, which is very sad for a company like Yamaha.

I've tried many brands and although the A6a needs work, is it still the best?
The issues with it:1. Sound delay: when I unpaused, rewind, or play a video, the sound would take 3 to 5 second to become audible. Sometimes longer. This is with ultra high speed certified HDMI or standard HDMI cables. My brother commented that he couldn't live with it. I agree, especially when spending money for a worse experience. Equipment from 2016/2017 just functions better. Never had problem at all with the rxa770 until a power surge took its life. The construction: the acrylic face and top of the unit can scratch easily. I put light to it, and saw that it had stains out of the box. If you put any cleaning cloths on it, you may get permanent hair line scratches.3. It doesn't sound any better than my old Yamaha RXA770a at normal listening level. The "better" is the performance at higher volumes4. The advanced YPAO was not helpful in my room. manual peq was a must with this receiver. However, I could never tell if I got it right. You may need to take a few PEQ courses. Or try something like room eq wizard.5. When I use the compressed enhancer, I notice the bass has a wavy forced sound to it. I noticed this with music that has sustaining bass.6. That huge volume knob. My wife couldn't stand it. Looks like a washing machine knob.7.The unboxing experience is the same as you would get from an RXV385.Now The goods:1. don't sleep on the Scenes feature. It's extremely nice to be able to save different sound modes and all kinds of settings for movies and music to 8 different presents(scenes) to the same or different sources to recall with the press of a button.2. The subs are independent and there is a separate peq just for the subs. You can change what frequency you want to adjust. Example, the lowest bass frequency band is default at 63hrz. You can move that particular band to 49hrz, 29hrz etc... or go higher if you want. You can do this for both the sub peq and the peq for all of the other channels with all bands.3. You can program the program button to be used as a dialogue level control or a subwoofer level. Or for something else. You can pick.4. The good thing other reviewers said.5. I was able to control my connected Onn/Google streaming device with the Yamaha's remote while controlling the Yamaha Simultaneously. When compared to other brands, it might be the best:Coming from a Marantz cinema 60 you'll notice the big open sound with the Yamaha. The marantz was not better than "any" Yamaha I've owned at low listening levels. I would lose 3 seconds of audio, video, or both when I press the the smart select while streaming directly from my tcl 55qm6k or a device connected directly to one of the the Marantz' HDMI ports. The Sony AZ1000 and STR860 seems to sound great in any room even without room correction. Maybe add a little treble and bass if you like. However, from my experience Sony amps seems to do weird things like humming when off or might not power on until you unplug it or something like that etc..Integra DRX 3.4 sounds really good with music, and movie even without a sub. That Accueq with 17 locations worked perfectly for my space. But, it lacks audio presets, the subwoofer lfe output was way too low-(defective maybe), and the awful relay clicks when raising the volume was a serious problem for me. The relay clicks affect Onkyo as well. Denon functions the same as Marantz. After trying all of these different brands, I still think Yamaha functions the best. I believe Yamaha is also best for low level listening. You can even use YPAO DRC volume without running YPAO fist. It let you do whatever you want. It never does anything strange. I think Yamaha is best for every day ease of use, ones set up properly with your settings saved to the scene. Listening to music, press scene 1. Want less or more bass, press 2 or 3. Same setting as scene 1 but with more dialogue with ypao on or off, save it to 4 or 5, etc etc...When Yamaha decides to get rid of the scratchible front panel and fix the embarrassing lagging HDMI handshakes, and sound dropouts, and maybe find a way to make it shorter, I will get another one. For now, I will have take another route.
