Cello Scales & Arpeggios, ABRSM Grades 1-5: from 2012

There were no dislikes all the scales, arpeggios and keys are all clearly set out including suggested fingering, really useful book.

Great value and perfect for a beginner

Great book. Gives scales and arpeggios as well as giving different ways you can do them. Great for practise for the ABRSM exams or for anybody who is a student who will need to learn appropriate scales. You know they'll be correct and official with this book!

It is important to have this as it is gives the current requirements including bowing patterns.

Good book to study scales and arpeggios in preparation for the exam. I like that it goes all the way to grade 5

Just need to work at these now to ensure my "scales" are accurate helpful hints throughout mean I should get the best out of what is normally a students least favorite thing to practice.

Useful to have

Simple exercises to improve your playing. Easy to understand and builds you gently as you progress through the book to more difficult scales.

My former teacher had me learning scales in a book with tricky rhythms and bowings. Please. Who needs the stress? I decided that the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music probably know what they are doing since the books / system are used in all English-speaking countries (except the US, mostly) and the grade levels actually mean something. I decided not to do the exams as they are so involved, but one can still do the system. I highly recommend these books for beginners. They help establish a good foundation. Rather than playing trickier things poorly (like many Suzuki students) one learns to play at first basic pieces, but well, to a performance standard really. No one likes to hear a poor performance, even if (especially if?) it is more complicated. Better to establish a solid foundation, and this book starts one on good footing.
