A perfect, trouble-free solution at a great price
I visited a well-known UK electronics retailer asking if there was a gizmo which would link a HDMI digital device up to a scart input on an older digital TV. The assistant told me that they didn't sell them but suggested that such a thing was called a 'digital to analogue converter' and that they were quite a lot of money. So much so it was probably cheaper to buy a cheap new TV. He also said that I shouldn't invest in these 'cheap' converter sockets as they rarely work. I didn't believe him so I went home and did some research. I found this unit, first on Ebay, then looked into web reviews and came to Amazon (where I found it cheaper than Ebay). Ordered late on Saturday afternoon and had it delivered to the Amazon lockers across the street in my local supermarket the following lunchtime. Total time from discovery to delivery: 24 hours.Pulling the thing from the box I was suspicious of its small size but without reading the instructions plugged it in, connected it to the TV scart socket, plugged in my Google Chromecast dongle, selected the input on the remote and was watching streaming videos inside 5 minutes. So very easy to use and from the experience so far: it does exactly what you'd expect it to do. My TV is an older (pre USB and HDMI input) digital set - the Sony Bravia first gen - so the picture quality is as good as they got at the time. It's not 4K hi-def so I can't comment on any image resolution loss or compression 'debris' from hi-def programmes. What I did experience is very 'watchable' picture quality programmes: as good as anything coming down the wire from Sky or DVD.If anything, the only aspect which took a bit of figuring out was the 'digital' drag which sometimes happens when first 'logging in' to the device. The colour test bars usually go away after a few seconds (or after restarting) as the software and handshakes figure out what the signal is supposed to be. Given that I grew up in the age where getting a good picture involved wafting an aerial about this is not a problem. The fact that this unit is so small is a real bonus too as it fits neatly, out of sight, around the back with the other wires and quietly goes about it's work in the background. Once connected and running I was able to run not only video direct from my tablet but also use the TV screen as an extension of my laptop - which is all I was looking to do (without having to buy yet another TV).If you're looking for super fast, super high definition, cinema quality entertainment - get a better television. If you just want to use state-of-the-art tech with your older TV screen then you can't get better than this for the price. Very reasonable price-point, very clear instructions, extremely easy to use and terrific customer service (they sent me a courtesy email to ask if I was happy with my purchase). For what it is I'd give this 6 stars out of 5.

Converts HDMI to SCART... perfect!
Following an upgrade to VIRGIN V6 box, which has no working SCART socket, I realised that I could not connect my fairly old but reliable RF transmitter, which sends the signal to the kitchen TV so I can watch it when I'm in there. Therefore, I had two problems that I did not have before:1) No way to connect the SCART at all2) No way to have a signal sent to both my HDMI TV and the RF transmitter at the same time.So I bought this and a HDMI splitter that duplicates the signal which for me was very important, as most splitters are many inputs to one output (for TVs with only one HDMI socket) and it works perfectly. It comes with the power lead, so nothing else needed, except perhaps an extra HDMI lead, if you need it.If you want to convert a HDMI output into SCART, I highly recommend this product.PS: This is the splitter I bought, works very well too - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M4INTHT

Very easy to install
Having read previous reviews, I decided to wait a while before posting a review.Firstly, I was very impressed with how fast I received the 2 hdmi to start converters I ordered. They arrived the next day.I bought these to connect a new Sky Q box to my old tv's.Very easy to install. On one tv, absolutely no problems at all over the 3 months I've been using them.On my second, smaller, cheaper tv, only slight problems. About once a week when switching the box on, it goes to a black screen with only a very small screen playing on the left hand side. I reset my Q box each time by removing the plug for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in. It takes a few minutes to reboot itself, then it works great again. This could of course be the Q box, but as its new, it's doubtful. In conclusion, I feel these converters are well worth the money in my case and will last until I'm prepared to purchase new tv's.

Really good but be careful how you set it up.
Really does the job well and I am pleased with the performance. However, you do need to be careful when you set it up. I started by plugging it and the Set Top box into a multi plug adapter and I could not get the Converter to work. After messing about for a bit with different cables and connections, I decided to plug everything:- TV, DVD player, Converter and Set Top box into a trailing lead extension, each plug going into a different socket. Everything worked perfectly. This may be a solution for the people who seem to have experience problems with installing the Converter.

my unit does not work
My new CCTV system only has HDMI out and works fine on a small TV with HDMI input. As I have my unit in my loft, so that during a break inthe CCTV unit does not get taken if it were under the main TV, and the loft TV is my old TV with only a scart connector I bought this unit in the hopes that it will just convert HDMI from CCTV out into my scart TV. How wrong I was. It does not even work with my daughters bedroom frat scene LCD, which has both HDMI and scart. It works fine on HDMI but with the converter plugged in it does not. It shows a very colourful screen which says nonsupport Pal. What a waste of money.
