Solid build. Good design. Good materials. Good protection. Slightly bulky.
Purchased this case after owning three "SwitchEasy Tones" iPhone 5 cases which look fantastic but fall apart quickly (please do NOT buy the SwitchEasy Tones case!).This case is actually slightly less money than the SwitchEasy junk, however is simply a far far better case in terms of design and build quality! It consists of an inner rubber layer that your iPhone 5 slips in to and then you clip on an outer hard plastic case. This design means there is no rubber-to-plastic bonding to fail. Fitting is very easy and once on is a good snug fit.I didn't use the screen protector that came with it (I already had a high quality matt one fitted) so cannot comment on that.I do have two minor gripes...1) Case is slightly bulkier than I would have liked, making my iPhone 5 look about as bulky as the older iPhone 4s. That said you get very solid protection so I guess that's the trade off. Can't have your cake and eat it etc.2) The rubber flaps on the bottom that protect the earphone and lightning port holes are hard to open. The rubber tabs close tightly over the holes (good!) but, if like me you don't have long fingernails, you will need a corner of a credit card or similar to lever them open. I'm hoping this becomes easier over time as they are opened and closed more.Over all a definate 5 star case for the excellent design and build quality.FYI - My case stated "made in USA" inside the case so it is not a fake as suggested by one other review here.

Perfect case providing all round protection without too much bulk
When purchasing the iPhone 5, one of the main questions people are faced with is how should I protect it? There's a wide range of cases, protectors and prices ranging from a few pound right up to around £50 it seemed choosing a good case would be harder than I thought. I wanted something that offered drop protection, as I am clumsy and something that felt good in the hand. I stumbled across OtterBox and was immediately drawn to the commuter device. It's easily installed and just as easily removed should you ever need to take it off. It feels good in the hand and despite other reviews, I don't believe it makes the phone feel too bulky. Should it be dropped (which I have dropped it around 4-5ft several times) then it is well protected! Even the case itself hasn't gained any marks! It comes with a screen protector though I didn't opt to use it as I never have anything sharp close to the screen and keep the phone in it's own pocket. In conclusion: If you want good drop protection, but aren't too fussed about leaving the screen/ back apple logo exposed, made from high quality materials and wan't something that looks good too (available in various colours) then the OtterBox Commuter for the iPhone 5 is the right chice for you. I'm very confident that this will last months, if not the whole life of my iPhone 5 and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it!

Great Case, poor screen protector
Just fitted the case last night, overall I am very pleased. Some good things:1) The case is designed with a rubber cover to slip over the phone, which protects the front edges right the way around. On top of that is a hard plastic case that snaps over the top. This stops the hard plastic touching the phone, my previous case was a slimmer hard plastic one, and any grit whatsoever that got between the case and the phone caused scratches. It looks and feels like it would protect the phone from smaller drops and knocks really well.2) The cover fits over all the front egdes of the phone. My previous case didn't and the unprotected top and bottom edges got scratched by coins in my pocket.3) It looks pretty hard-wearing, and although it is by no means 'slimline' it isn't huge. I slip it into my inside suit or jacket pocket, and it's fine.4) It looks well designed. It doesn't look cheap at all, and the hole in the back to show the apple logo is a nice touch.A few things I don't love:1) There are two small rubber flaps that cover the headphone and power sockets. They don't snap into the holes, so they just kind of 'hang' part open all the time. Bit pointless really?2) The screen protector is a very thick, rather numb thing. I fitted it, but I felt it really reduced the sensitivity of the touchscreen. I have replaced with a MediaDevil Crystal Screen, which are excellent, and are die cut to fit around the speaker and button, so that when the Otterbox case is fitted, you have to look really carefully to see that it is there, unlike the one supplied with the case, that was very obviously present and quite distracting when using the phone.

Otterbox Commuter Vs Speck Pixelskin HD
I have come to own an Otterbox Commuter for my iPhone 5 after having been majorly let down by the Speck Pixelskin HD case. I don't even know how Speck had the gall to release that case, did they not check whether it would fit or not?Anyway, The Commuter:Straight from the packet you can tell this is a quality item. It is a three piece construction. An inner silicone case with a hard plastic case the clips over the top to form a dual layer sandwich at the back and sides. It also it comes with a screen protector to form the third part of the deal. The case is solid and sturdy. It fits well and the ports are covered with sturdy silicone flaps which stay in place when not open. There is a round port in the rear of the case given a view of the Apple logo.Positives:The phone is well protected, the ports are easy to access and the buttons are covered too.Negatives:Chunky. The charge port will not allow for the use of the Apple 30pin to Lightning converter. It does allow the USB Micro to Lightning and of course the normal USB to Lightning charge/sync cable. The supplied yellow screen cleaning cloth should be thrown away immediately, it leaves micro fibres on the screen and will ruin your use of the screen protector.

Disappointed
I have always been pleased with previous otter box purchases. This one didn’t quite live up to the rest. It cracked within a week (not from dropping, just pulled it out of my pocket) and the rubber has never fit properly.
