Recommend highly--wonderful interplay between father and his son (and his son's imagination!)
The words flow so easily with catchy rhythm and repetition. Both father and son play along for a grand game of pretend. It's neat that by bedtime the boy realizes it's the grandest thing to be himself for the night. Then he can wake up the following morning ready to be other great characters of history.I am an old stickler for the difference between "who" and "that." The author uses "who" correctly almost every time, except for "...brightest, grandest, greatest boy that ever was...." Also, the brief stories of the high achievers at the end of the book are too complicated for young listeners/readers; I'm sure that some parents would want to read these aloud to their listeners. And even early readers might want to read them. The paragraphs here are a bit lengthy. It's neat, though, for the author to include "Daddy" among the historical greats.A wonderful book with imagination and high values. I recommend it highly.

Terifiic children's book with superb artwork about a boy and his wonderful imagination!
First thing you'll want to do with this children's book if viewing on a kindle is to open up "Change Font Size" and do a Screen Location to landscape (horizontal) mode so you can best enjoy the well-illustrated pages and clever storyline that end with a touching moment between Daddy and son. Following the story is a brief, roughly 1 page biography on each of the significant characters the boy was pretending to be including Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, Chief Joseph, Fred Astaire, Jackie Robinson, and Daddy, (of course). I had downloaded "My Name Is Not Isabella" at the same time and am itching to give that book a look as well as I'm mighty curious as to what 6 notable female people (including Mom) will be present in that offering. Excellent book!

Very cute
This is an imaginative book and the male counterpart to the "My Name is Not Isabella" book. It's a great way to introduce your kids to some great historical figures in a fun way. I know it's supposed to be geared towards boys and the Isabella books are supposed to be geared towards girls, but we have both versions and they are all well-loved by my daughter and all the kids (boys and girls) in her preschool where I volunteer to read, so if your children like this book, they might also enjoy Isabella: Star of the Story and My Name is Not Isabella as well. Also of note: One of the coolest features of these books is that at the end of the book is a short blurb about each historical or fictional character named therein, along with a photo. Perfect for teaching an introduction to history and literature.

Good book
We lucked out and named one child Isabella and one Alexander so these two books worked perfectly for us. Definitely recommend

Nice book, ripped jacket
I love the idea of this book, but there are a few characters I wouldn't have chosen. Oh well. Still teaches about famous people throughout history and a sweet little ending about wanting to be like Daddy. The book jacket arrived ripped! I thought about sending it back, but I guess jackets don't always stay intact with little ones handling it.

Great Book!!
My 4 year old grandson loved this book. He would repeat the line "my name is not Alexander" then give the history piece that he learned from the book even when the book was not with him. The eye catching illustrations were colorful with good animation. Your child learned bites of history while using their imagination. It was a great way to start a child thinking what he could be or do in life. I would suggest good for preschool through 2nd grade. I liked reading it myself!

I cannot say enough great things about this book
I cannot say enough great things about this book! I may extra love it because my son's name is Alexander but the way the story is written to teach little people about big historical people using illustrations, integrating meaningful wording and using humor and reinforcing the bond between father and son made this book a nightly read in our house!

Awesome
I read it to my two younger brothers. My brother says it teaches someone to be himself and not someone else. It's a cute book.

Hm,
die Grundidee des Buches war, Kinder *kreativ* über verschiedene Personen zu erzählen.Der kleine Alexander schlüpft dazu an diesem Tag in verschiedene Rollen (u.a. Thomas Edison, Chief Joseph,...) die sein Vater mit Humor nimmt. Gegen Ende behauptet er einmal "I'm not...

A lovely introduction to Historical figures..
This, like the other book in this series, introduces different historical characters for your child to learn about....Each character has achieved something amazing in their own field.....It's a good fun read....BUT...it is very much about people from the USA....many of whom won't mean much to British readers....it's still worth looking at though....and includes Teddy Roosevelt and Fred Astaire.....

No British/European historical figures
A beautiful looking book and a fantastic idea but all the characters are from American history (Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Addison, Chief Joseph, Fred Astaire and Jackie Robinson) so not what I'm interested in reading to my children. I am returning it.
