Great telescope but also extra equipment is needed
This is an excellent telescope. I've had a few telescopes in the past, but this one is much better. Really good quality and great size, but I recommend also buying the CELESTRON WIFI MODULE because I couldn't figure out why it wasn't connecting to my laptop, and then I realised I had to buy this additional product. They are about £130, so not cheap but definitely worth it as its not included with the telescope. Even if you don't want to do it online, you can align one planet in the sky, and it automatically knows where the others are. It works very well and is overall a great product. Building the stand/tripod might be a bit tricky, so I recommend watching a YouTube tutorial.

Very advanced telescope you need large field to point the sky

Great starter scope for everyone
I study astrophysics at university and I wanted a scope so that I could do some amateur astrophotography in my spare time. The scope is very good value for money but you do pay a bit more. The scope can be set up by one person in under 5 minutes. It has brilliant features in the hand control that make it easy for beginners but incredibly flexible for more advanced users. The tripod is well built and very stable and has a wedge for photography and for setting the mount to equitorial. The finderscope is a brilliant addition. The scope itself has great optics and produces very clear images of stars and planets. I would recommend anyone get a few more eyepieces and a barlow lens to get more magnification. If you want to photograph deep sky objects alone (or fainter stars viewed in the eyepiece) I would suggest a scope with bigger aperture but definately from this range of telescope. Overall, the quality from the tripod, fork arm and scope are top notch. This would be an great choice for a starter scope, I am very pleased with it. Happy star-gazing.

ALL fair SO FAR
FIRST IMPRESSIONS ON GETTING IT OUT OF ITS MANY BOXES. ON OF THEM SAID MADE IN CHINA WHOOPS IT NEARLY GOT RETURNED ASAP.BUT. i FIGURED CELESTRON HAD USED A RECLAIMED BOX THIS AINT CHINA ITS TOO GOOD SO DOWN TO THE NITTY GRITTY IT IS A SOLID MADE ITEM LOOKS AND FEELS GOOD. VERY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER i STUUFED SOME BATTERYS IN AND DID A MANUAL TERESTRIAL VIEWING OF A NEGHBOURS CHIMNEY. CLEAR AS CHRYSTAL. SO TONIGHT ITS JUPITER AND THE MOON i HAVE NOT AS YET SET UP THE GOTO BUT THE MOTORS SEEM TO BE SMOOTH AND THE TRIPOD IS SOLID AS A ROCK. SO SHOULD BE QUITE GOOD ENOUGH FOR LONG DISTANCE VIEWING i HAVE A 2TIMES BARLOW TO FIT ALSO A SEBEN ZOOM LENSE SO ALL TO TRY OUT AT PRESS i WILL BE UPDATING THE FINAL REULTS IN A FEW DAYS SKY PERMITING i HAVE ORDERED A POWER TANK TO SAVE ON BATTERIES SO NEXT FEW WEEKS WILL TELL THE SKIES HERE ARE FULL OF HEAT HAZE SO MAY HAVE TO WAIT TILL SEPTEMBER AND BE CONTENT WITH OLD MAN MOON OR JUPE IF I AM LUCKY turns out all celestron tackle now made in china including this scope however it is solidly made but I am having great difficulty setting up the go to I put in my location the correct time etc but am having no luck aligning it at this time if I succede i will add more

Worst buying mistake ever
Utter garbage, complete waste of money, view finder will not align with scope, feels cheap with loose fittings. Handset now permanently stuck in boot mode. Bought for xmas but due to illness only just tried to set up so can’t return. Can either use to hang coat on or sell on the cheap. Avoid avoid avoid its a monumental disappointment.

Great telescope
Being a total newby in amateur astronomy I read extensively through various web sites and product reviews before deciding on the NexStar 4 SE. The three deciding factors at the end were: quality of the instrument, portability and price. So far the telescope has not disappointed me. It is a beautiful instrument, excellent build quality and the computerized star finder is a great tool. If anything I would have liked Celestron to have included an additional eyepiece in the kit as standard. The included 25 mm eyepiece gives a 52 times magnification, which is excellent for viewing the moon, but too low to clearly resolve the planets. Being a 4" device, the magnification can realisticly go up to 240 times, so inlcuding a 12 mm eyepiece or a 2X Barlow lens would have made it a totally perfect experience out of the box.

Great beginners telescope not to easy to align
It’s a great telescope the only thing I found hard was the alignment kept saying not recognised so have only got it to work on 2 or 1 star alignment. Waiting for the moon to come back into view then will try again. Otherwise it’s one of the best beginners telescopes and I was surprised to see what I could from only a 4 inch one.

Early use encouraging.
I needed a telescope I could transport and this fits the bill. Takes roughly ten minutes from case to being operational. I am sure once I get more practice that will improve. Due to weather not been able to fully set up electronic but did manage to look at moon and get a photo. Very encouraging for the future. Following other feedback not bothered with batteries got power pack and mains adaptor. Only slight problem area is lining up head with bolts on tripod. Would be good if marked in some way or more detailed info in instructions. Could of course just be me.

Great beginner telescope
This was originally bought for a ground based study of satellite antenna and terrestrial microwave physical interference project. I used it to find visible obstructions like buildings, trees, etc following the satellite arc and line-of-site communications at a proposed telecommunications sight. It is quite powerful. For instance, at a 4km distance, it could barely show a single window of a high rise condominium building in is field of view. Since then, it has been used for enjoyment. Looking at the moon, stars, etc. And I have bought many other accessories, lenses, etc for this new hobby. As a star gazer, you might want a more powerful scope, but it has been fun to start with. I bought a camera lens adapter for my digital SLR and have taken some amazing pictures with it. Talk about a telefoto lens! I still struggle with the automatic tracking feature. I guess I need to learn a little bit more about the stars to get it working properly.

Celestron NexStar 4SE
