Jim Dunlop Petrucci Jazz III Player Pack (6 Pieces)

I’ve tried out quite a few picks over my 15 years of dabbling with guitar. My old fave was the 1mm Dunlop Nylon that you see in the images. But these picks are my new fave, specifically if you’re playing the likes of scales or any single string licks where accuracy and speed is key. Fast metal and rock are where these picks excel. You can see in the images that this pick is smaller and more pointy than standard picks. As a result, it’s more accurate. Flicking between my old pick and this one, I noticed I could play that little bit quicker and cleaner. The point makes quite a difference, as does the bevelled edge when alternate picking. These picks are comfortable to hold and the logo and rough area ensure the pick doesn’t slip when playing. The thickness of the pick and material made an audible difference to sound and sustain too. Thankfully in a good way. As with many picks, value for money is great. These are solid and will last many, many hours of playing. If you play metal or rock these are a solid choice and will hell improve your speed and sound. Enjoy!

I've had quite a lot of experience with most types of picks from the typical rounded dunlop/fender picks to big purple plectrums, and I've found my happy medium with the Petrucci Jazz III. They're quite a bit thicker than your typical plectrum and I find that this helps with maintaining a nice grip, and the JP logo along with the almost-matted texture also helps to stop the pick from slipping out of your fingers (these picks aren't too grippy unlike other picks that I've tried, but this is entirely subjective). The main reason that I enjoy these picks is that they have a hard and pointy edge with sharp bevels on either side, this helps massively with fast trem picking and general solo playing in maintaining accuracy and keeping everything sounding tight; I now couldn't go back to normal rounded picks because I really feel the difference with the sharp and hard point on these. In short, if you want faster, cleaner trem picking for shredding and don't mind a thick plectrum, buy a set of these picks. Over the years mine have slowly worn down and become dull, but this has taken a lot of time with heavy usage.

The size of the JP fits perfectly between the jazz III and the Jazz III XL. I always loved the precision capabilities of the jazz III but found I did too many unintentional pinched harmonics with it and Jazz III XL while being awesome didn't have the super agility of its smaller counterpart so I tried the JP and it is a sort of jack of all trades. The JP has good agility and is easy to hold with its embossed logo. I found that I haven't dropped it and I can back off from the tip enough to fix those unwanted harmonics while still being able to easily catch screaming harmonics when I need them easier than larger plectrums. My only issue with the JP is the material. It is made of ULTEX which I find to have the highest "chirp" factor of any other plectrum material and I find it drags on the strings noticeably more than the buttery smoothness of a nylon jazz III (XL). The sound of plectrum is surprising. I was expecting super bright treble being ULTEX but intact this plec highlights mids with a more bass than the usual ULTEX. To put this into perspective I say a Jazz III XL has a full neutral EQ. A tortex plec has a bright EQ with higher treble and less bass and an ULTEX plec has piercing highs with subdued bass frequencies. Over all the JP is a great plectrum and well worth a try but it would be even better if we could get a nylon version of it.

While on a pick quest to find and try out some other Jazz III's picks I stumbled across these and decided to give them a shot. I tend to use White Tortex .88mm Jazz III's and have for several years, i use Tortex because I don't like the coating or the raised logos and branding on the regular Jazz III's. My first use of the pick impressed me, I thought I wouldn't like the grip on the pick because it wasn't Tortex like I prefer but it's pretty good, I think I don't mind the JP logo raised as unlike regular Jazz III's because the logo is the same on both sides making grip consistent unlike on the standard Jazz III's. Another thing I was impressed with was the “slick polished tip” I noticed it was a lot smoother and slick to play fast compared to my Tortex Jazz III's although it is a very subtle but going back and forth between the two I did notice it. Overall a great pick and something I imagine would be better suited towards a rock guitarist but the polished tip would be great for metal or thrash. Would easily recommend for £5, still too early to say if I've found my new go to pick but if I lose these I will replace them. I have another set of picks I'll be getting tomorrow to play around with the Green Kirk Hammett Jazz III's and I'll be reviewing those tomorrow. I have been using Dunlop tortex 2mil picks for about ten years and couldn't envisage straying from them for a long time... But a friend recommended these to me a little while back, and they happily popped up in my suggestions, so I bought them on a whim. It took me a couple of tracks to settle in with them fully, but I think I have made the switch for good now - I am VERY impressed with these picks. They are significantly smaller than my previous workhorses and have a grip finish that I guess is designed to make it a little easier to keep hold of them in sweaty gig situations - never a bad thing! I was worried that the smaller size might make keeping hold of them (I have wide thumb/fingertips!) problematic, but on the contrary, these are very usable even with sausage fingers like mine. The defined point of the pick (way more sharp than other Dunlops) means attack is clean, crisp and needs to be much more precise than with other picks that allow for (and cover) a bit of sloppiness. The coating on the pick-tip makes skipping over the strings in lead breaks very, very easy. Overall, I am greatly impressed. I shall be sticking with these for a while to come.

That's the only pick a use. they are perfect for me.

These took my guitar playing to the next level instantly. Been struggling to find a pick that works for me, tried these and wow straight away playing faster more accurately and even alternate picking which I’ve never been able to get down. My new go to pick. Also as a tip, if you want more grip just buy some fingerboard grip tape (the tech deck mini skateboard things) and wrap a bit around the top. Works amazingly.

Dopo 10 mesi di uso costante solo su chitarra elettrica (in totale 6 plettri usati da 1 a 2 ore al giorno) lo stato di tutti e sei è più o meno quello che si vede dalle foto. Quindi: - Sono eterni: NO. Si consumano e si spuntano, come tutti. Però sono talmente duri e spessi che durano. - Precisi: SI molto, finchè hanno ancora la punta. - Grip: Ottimo. Rispetto al classico Dunlop Tortex ruvido da 1mm di forma standard il grip è migliore, ora il plettro non mi cade quasi mai. - Dimensioni: dalla foto si vede un confronto. Però attenzione: se il plettro suonando vi "ruota" tra le dita (esponendo verso le corde il bordo e non la punta), il movimento per rimetterlo in posizione rapidamente sarà molto più difficile. Questa per me è l'unica nota negativa. Col plettro standard bastava un movimento con le altre dita e tornava a posto, con questo non ci riesco. Però va detto che questo ruota molto meno per via del suo grip. - Tipo di strumming: io suono rock-metal e mi trovo benissimo. - Suono: non saprei dire se meglio o peggio, posso solo riportare il commento del mio maestro (circa 40 anni di esperienza sullo strumento) che non li ha apprezzati perchè non riesce ad ottenere le stesse dinamiche rispetto al Dunlop Tortex 0.96. - Costo: faccio di tutto per non perderli. - Li ricomprerò: SI, mai più senza. Habe, wie wohl jeder Gitarrist, lange mit der Suche nach dem perfekten Pick verbracht und glaube, beim Petrucci fündig geworden zu sein. Da sie eine Entwicklung vom Jazz 3 sind, ist der Pick natürlich relativ klein gehalten. Der Grip ist zwar nicht perfekt, da man beim Schwitzen den doch ab und zu von den Fingern verliert, allerdings fühlt er sich toll an. Zuletzt habe ich aber die Dunlop Whitefang ausprobiert und der Vorteil von diesen war für mich persönlich, dass sie etwas größer sind und nicht so dick. Zudem ist der Grip übertrieben gut. Wie es nun mal so ist, muss jeder den richtigen Pick für sich finden, der Petrucci ist auf jeden Fall einer der besten, welche ich ausprobieren konnte und kann ich jedem nur empfehlen!

J`utilise des plectres de plus en plus durs et affutés depuis quelques années ; habitué aux Jazz III " classiques" , petits, précis , " fontaines à harmoniques artificielles ". Mais là il s`agit de jouer dans une autre cour : très bon grip , plus dur que les Jazz III , les attaques sont précises , le jeu rapide semble plus facile , la tranche glissant sur les cordes . Grosse attaques sur les accords , le son semble plus puissant dans les haut-médiums et équilibré dans les basses , le timbre général amélioré . Mais toutes ces qualités sont contrebalancées par une mise en relief des défauts dans son jeu : peu de droit à l`erreur , l`on ne peut que progresser avec . Je ne recommande pas pour une acoustique ou un jeu en strumming . Pratiquant plusieurs heures au quotidien je n`ai pas encore constaté d`usure à la pointe.

Estou ainda me acostumando, mas deu pra sentir uma grande diferença.

Really amazing pick. If the standard jazz 3 picks feel too small, these are slightly bigger than those but they're still much smaller than the usual picks beginners are used to. Not suitable for beginners or early intermediate players. Overall, I feel these are one of the best picks out there for intermediate players and above. These have good attack and feel thick and grippy when you hold it. They are slightly pricey but really worth it.
