Would it hold enough grams for me and my mate to get bang on it or would we both need one?

Impossible to answer as everyone has a different tolerance. However for legal reasons, I would suggest you have your own capsule as you don’t want to be done for supply. It’s also for dosing capsules, i.e. medical cannabis. I can tell you that each capsule holds .2 of a gram average and the caddy holds four capsules. You could probably cram in about 3 g of ground herb.
