I'm the Best

A great read by British artist Lucy Cousins (the same author of Maisy Mouse) - this book lets children reflect on showing-off and makes them realize that they can easily alienate themselves from their best friends. Highly recommended, particularly to those who volunteer at their local school library, this book has beautiful illustrations, clear dialogues and bright colors which a large group of children can follow and observe even from a paperback edition whilst the librarian reads on. Do not feel disappointed about the story ending: even if Dog still declares he is the best, yet he knows he is the best because of his own individuality, his fluffy ears.

Underlying lesson about being a good friend tucked in a really cute story for 4-6 year olds.

I like this story. Good lesson about how to be a good friend and have good sportsmanship. Dog brags about his abilities, but he finds out that his friends are sad because he put them down in an effort to look good. Great way to talk about how to treat and respect others.

I love the colors in this book and the cute story. This book teaches a lesson in a very fun and colorful way, and my son loves the pictures in it. As a dog owner, I laughed out loud the first time I read this story and most of the people I've handed this book to and asked them to read it have done the same. It's a must-have for your collection if you're a dog lover.

My son thinks this is a great book

My son has loved this book from the first time we read it to him at the age of two. I can't count how many times we checked it out from the library. Now that he is reading on his own & has his very own copy, he loves it even more!

Great book which also (hopefully) teaches a lesson to small children about being too self centered. My 3.5 year old loves it when I read it using funny voices.

A great book about empathy!

I bought this book as a replacement for a copy that had fallen apart through over use. My toddler loved it. It has a great moral without being tiresome, the writing is rhythmic and engaging and the illustrations vibrant and attractive. I highly recommend it.Beware, however, when ordering from Amazon. When it arrived I realised that I had the North American edition not the UK edition. I returned it not because of any snobbery but because it detracted from the quality of the book. The illustrations have been shrunk on the page so are less impressive. Worse the language has been changed to American usage. The ladybird becomes a ladybug and crucially the 'I Win' becomes 'I won' in the refrain, spoiling the alliterative quality. Knowing how good it could be it really jarred reading it like this. I think it is pretty shoddy of Amazon to be selling a book on their UK website, to a UK customer when it is a US edition.In conclusion, buy this book, it's great, but perhaps not from here.

Nice book. Story isn't the best but my 18 month old seems to like it!

Great book which helps small children understand that everyone has their own gifts and strengths. Beautifully illustrated. Great for my 2yr old boy.
