Sounds like the ring is tight on the finger for pressure points? Not sure about using it being claustrophobic.

It's tight, but not too tight. Adjust comfortably. Make sure the "dots" are on the inside of the little finger of the left hand for a woman. If it's for a man, on the little finger of the right hand. I use it every night, as do my sisters (we all snore), and my husband says it really helps. It doesn't totally stop the snoring, but makes a huge difference. It won't affect your claustrophobia because it's just for snoring. Works very well.

what type of metal is this ring made out of?

I think it's stainless steel and if it isn't, it looks like it. It hasn't discoloured at all despite repeated use. I hope that's helpful.
