Single Brand new Wooden Umbrella Yarn Swift ball winder is a great tool for knitting and crochet. The clamp-on base allows it to be firmly fixed at the edge of tables, chairs, benches, or any other convenient locations. Helps to make winding the wool into balls a much easier. They work well with ball winders. The real bonus is that these incredibly useful swifts fold down after use making storage much easier.

Easy to use together with yarn winder machine
Just used the umbrella together with a yarn winder today. The umbrella was easy to set up and attach to a table. It might have been better if the clamp had a layer of rubber top and bottom to protect the wooden surface of our tabletop but my use did not mark or scratch the table surface. I’ve shoulder problems so use of the yarn wonder together with the umbrella was fantastic. Wound 8 skeins in 20 minutes!.

Great
I have wanted to get a wooden yarn winder for a while now. I am very happy that I did.The only issue I had is that I have a bar going across my table just below the table top which means I cannot fit it. I use 2 cook books instead, staggered slightly and this works just fine! Few! Almost perfect for me hence the 4 stars. Don't let this put you off! :-)

Does the job
This does the job. I had to modify the gap to enable it to fit my table. I would have preferred some felting or other protective material on the inside clamp to protect my table. It is very tactile and nice to look at. However, there are certain modifications that I think would improve it. It squeals when it is being rotated; a plastic washer might help here? It seems that over time this might show signs of wear. On first inspection, the string tying the arms together looked a bit suspect, but they are actually very good, as they allow for adjustability when the skeins are being placed around them and also whilst the swift is actually moving. When first tightening the screw, a piece of wood by the hole broke off. It doesn't affect the swift, but it was annoying. Had I not had the issues stated, then I would have given 5 stars

Works well, but a bit grindy
This is functional and works well, it can be a bit stiff and squeaky - can feel it grinding a little but it works and serves its purpose.I was going to go for the knit picks one but was out of stock at the time i needed it.This is a great budget item and as it works perfectly well i wont be replacing it, but had i not needed it i would prefer to have been able to wait till the other one was in stock. The finish just isnt smooth enough for me to give it 5* but its not bad and so i cant justify an upgrade/replacement.

It certainly would be better if the clamp had deeper groves cut into it ...
We bought this swift because it was wooden and so had a bit more rustic charm over the plastic ones that were cheaper. Unfortunately after just one days use we had to return it to the seller because the screw that holds it to the table/bench wouldnt grip as the screw slipped when trying to tighten it. Removing the screw and looking inside the clamp there was almost no groves/thread for the screw to grip onto and so it was no surprise that it wasnt able to be tightened. We didnt risk a replacement, the seller fairly quickly issued a refund, and so cannot say if our experience was a one off or is a design flaw. It certainly would be better if the clamp had deeper groves cut into it or if it is a case that they were worn away after just 1 day of use then perhaps something other than softwood needs inserting so that it retains the aesthetics but increases the durability.

The design is pleasing and it is pleasing to use. The clamp to keep it on the table could do with being a bit deeper so it holds better, but it has only been a problem when I've been winding a ball back into a skein, when winding skeins into balls it has been fine..Totally unnecessary for a home knitter, but it makes me happy to have it.

Bought this for my wife along with a winder, and she loves it. Fluid movement, I've not personally experienced any issues with it. I expect it may break if you put it under too much pressure or stand on it accidentally, though! We've used it to wind around 15 skeins so far - very well received gift :)

Great to wind a skein on your own!
Used it a few times, works really well.Wonder a bit about the sturdiness though, but won’t know until having used it for a longer time
