Definitely works
I repair vintage watches for a hobby and although budget detectors, such as this one, can't pick up Alpha radiation it immediately picked up the other radiation emitted when radium decays. This serves my purpose as I'm not bothered about high accuracy - I just need a yes/no indication. The item also arrived promptley.
