No problems with this one
Instructions poor but works well. Fourth one I have purchased all of which have worked at first One failed after 1 year .Suspect problem was the simcard contacts. Failed after a sim card changed. Tried other cards all failed in this but worked in other devices

Clever device which is simple to use.
Useful product which is quick to set up if you follow the instructions below. Works almost instantaneously via SMS so great for security applications, turning on or off equipment anywhere a phone signal is available. It also texts back to confirm that the switch is on or off. The only downside is the barmy instruction leaflet which is far from clear. However, here's how I get it to function:1. Setting upGet a free payg SIM (in my case, giffgaff as I can text other numbers by that provider for free so it costs nothing to run).Insert in any phone.Put a small initial sum onto the SIM if your provider requires this to activate the SIM.Ring another phone from the SIM to check its phone number.Insert SIM into top of switch.Insert switch in any 13 amp power outlet.SIG light flash settles from once per second to once per four seconds to show now connected to phone network.Press SET buttonFrom the phone you are going to use in controlling it, ring the switch's SIM phone number xxxxxxxxxxx within 30 secs and it will record the calling phone number as its controller and then drop the line.2. Controlling the switch via SMSAs the initial passcode has been left to its default state of 0000 you can control the switch thus:Text to xxxxxxxxxxx the message sn0000on to switch onYou should receive text confirmation now on.Text to xxxxxxxxxxx the message sn0000off to switch offYou should receive text confirmation now off.Text to xxxxxxxxxxx the message sn0000check to find out what the current state is: on or offYou can also just manually press SW to turn it on and again to turn it off.You can also voice call the number and it will switch from its current state (on or off) to the opposite, but no confirmation is received.3. Power-cut memory functionWhen active, this function will save the status of the switch in the event of a power cut. When power is restored, it will revert to that status. The default setting of power-cut memory is on.To check its setting' make sure the switch is set to off' power it down' power it back up and note if STA light flashes twice, which shows the power-cut memory function is on.' If the STA light flash 4 times, the power-cut memory function is off.To change its setting, long press SW button for 15 seconds4. Restoring switch to factory defaultsSimultaneously hold down SW button and SET button for 1 second. Then observe the STA light. STA light flashing slowly twice indicates the socket has been returned to factory setting (Control phone number is empty and passcode is 0000)

Works pretty damn well. Can call or text from anywhere in the world to turn on or off a device.
I have two so far. I bought one to connect a home router, so I can reboot the router if the wifi connection drops and I'm not home to troubleshoot/unplug it. I bought another for a lamp, which I can configure for home automation. Using Tasker for Android, I can have an automated text message sent to my lamp whenever I get home after a certain hour. When I connect to my wifi connection as I approach my house, my phone automatically (using Tasker) sends an SMS to my lamp, turning on the light as I open the door. I could theoretically do this with my hi-fi, my tv, or even a whole power extension connected to many devices. The possibilities are endless. Thank you Anself.

A great solution to a perennial problem
A great solution to a perennial problem; however, the instructions are almost unintelligible and certain functions simply don't work as described. All-in-all though, I like it and will probably buy more.Criticisms: Rather bulky and the unit can cover any switch on a wall socket, resulting in accidentally switching the socket off when pushing the unit into the socket - best used on a wall socket without a switch. Cancelling confirmation texts does not work (although you can cancel confirmation texts when using voice calls to trigger the device).

Good device - terrible instructions
A neat device to remotely control any device you plug in provided it draws less than 10A. Relatively simple to set up. Insert and activated SIM card, set a code then send an SMS to turn on or off a device or check the status of the device. It replies to your SMS with the action (i.e. Device On or Device Off).I deducted a star for the truly horrendous instructions where the words are mostly English but the sentences are incomprehensible!

Unreliable
A complete pain - very unreliable. Works when I stand in front of it watching the thing switch on and off. Doesn't work when I'm trying to remotely control something for real from afar. Half the time it just doesn't react to an SMS on message. Sometimes it does but doesn't sent a return code SMS - so you have no idea if the command has worked or not. I've had instances where it hasn't worked, power cycled it, sent it 4 or 5 commands and it has responded fine. Then gone somewhere - sent it an ON command and its glued up again. I may well have a faulty unit but its so unreliable its unusable.

900Mhz GSM only
I've had problems with these plugs because they don't like 1800Mhz. It seems you need 900Mhz GSM which means vodafone or O2. This is a pain because in UK, both of these phone companies now want a £5 miniumum payment per month.

Works with GiffGaff (O2 Network) PAYG sim.
Not sure how it does what it does for only £18.99, but it does indeed work as advertised and it hasn't set the house on fire, yet.I'm unwilling to open the case to see what's in it and how it's put together. I'm too scared the truth will put me off using it.Update 11/08/2017: Unit has been working without fault for the last year, absolutely no problems with it. Works each time, and has been 100% reliable. Highly recommended. Very useful for remote switching of powered equipment. The GiffGaff sim card and a £10 top up every six months or so has worked perfectly.
