Disappointing and messy
Using this product for the first time was so comical, I should have filmed it. But I didn't, so never mind. This tiny little bottle looks rather innocent at first, it comes complete with what sounds like a ball bearing rolling up and down the bottle when you move it. I've yet to find said ball bearing in the product. With a slight twist, the lid comes off with a lipgloss wand attached to it. But that's not the only thing, oh no - there's powder. Actual eyebrow powder. It goes everywhere. All over yourself, your hand, the floor, the hallway curtain, the phone shelf, the ACTUAL TELEPHONE (sorry Mum). With that, I just decided I'd go for it and slap it on one eyebrow, applying it as carefully as you would cement on a row of bricks. You had to, really, otherwise another sheet of powder would end up coating everything in the nearest vicinity. So I did, right, and then I took a step back from the mirror to admire my, er, handiwork. I almost screamed like that kid in Home Alone. You see, when the chalk powder is so chalky and likely to go everywhere, and the applicator brush is thick and heavy, you're going to make a mistake or two, right? Well, I made myself look like Burt and Ernie's human cousin. At nine o'clock in the morning. Admittedly, dark brown is definitely the wrong shade for my delicate complexion. So, I set about removing said eyebrow product, with the help of a wet wodge of toilet roll. It didn't shift. Nope, not once. I resorted to using my favourite rather expensive skincare cleanser, which got most of it off, but not quite. Even had a shower and all. Still no joy. All I can say is, this product needs a lot more thought put into it before being launched into the general public. Especially if you're as clumsy and heavy handed as I am. Now, if you see me in the street and you notice one eyebrow is way darker than the other, you'll know why...

Surprisingly good brow powder
I have a scar on my left brow, and I am guilty of having over plucked in the past, so I am forever looking for the right product to cover the scar and the patchy growth. I have tried all sorts of eyebrow products, from all price ranges. So when I was offered to try this product I instantly accepted. I picked the "Deep Brown" shade - I have dark hair but it's always difficult to find the right shade of brow product: very dark/black looks too harsh, but the brown shades are always too light or veer too much towards red. When I opened the product, I thought 'nope'. It looked way too light, how on earth could they call that shade 'deep brown'? Eventually, I decided to try it. And that's when the miracle happened: somehow, the apparently lighter shade blends in very well with my dark eyebrow, resulting in a very natural effect. Considering I had applied it in a hurry, using the built-in applicator, the results were really pretty good. Here are my recommendations:1) Apply with your own brush. I would recommend a flat brow brush, or a flat eyeliner brush. Dab some of the product on the back of your hand, using the applicator, and then use your hand like a palette and pick up the powder with your own brush.2) This product will fill in your brows, but as it's a powder, it might not stay put for very long. I will personally use it in conjunction with other brow products - a gel or a paste. I think Maybelline make a pomade, which maybe can be used with this product, but I haven't tried it.3) The colour looks very different when it's on your brows - it looks a lot lighter on the applicator. All in all, I would recommend this product. It's another one for my ever-growing eyebrow kit, although I think the only way to cover my scar will be through micro-blading.

Useful, but Needs Care in Use
Maybelline Brow Shaper in DARK BLONDEI am not overly adept in using Eyebrow Products but this one is worth a try.WARNING – Make sure you open this over a little dish, a plate etc. until you get used to the feel of it. If you don’t, you are liable to stain whatever the powder of this Brow Shaper falls on to.• This Brow Shaper is presented in a tamper proof sealed cellophane cover, on which is printed the List of Ingredients. If you have allergies, you need to read the list prior to peeling off the cellophane, as you will not be able to read it once it is removed.• Maybelline have this product marked as “Browdrama”! Good wording because unless you are prepared, opening it up to access the product can be a drama, in the form of spillage and subsequent staining on any fabrics that are in the vicinity.• There is a ‘mixing’ ball inside with the brow powder, so in the absence of any instructions, I gave the container a shake before opening.• When you unscrew the unit and withdraw the applicator, TAKE CARE and DO IT SLOWLY, or the powder will be all over your clothes etc. The applicator is thick like a sponge eye shadow applicator or a lip stain one.• I applied the Brow Shaper with a small, fine brush. I stroked the Shaper Powder on to my brows using small strokes the way the brows lay. Then I used small strokes, with a small amount of the powder and went backwards, against the lie of the eyebrow hair.In conclusion, I found this to be a useful Eye Brow product, if a little fiddly to use, because of having to be careful of spillage. I have a pale complexion with fairly pale eyebrows that get a bit sparse in places, once the grey hairs are plucked out. The amount of colour is easy to control and the overall effect was quite good considering I am not practised in the art of eyebrow make-up.The DARK BLONDE shade is good for pale complexions and very light brown hair, particularly for the older woman (like myself). The colour is soft and natural and does not look garish. I found that the product lasted all day on my eyebrows and I did not suffer any adverse reaction to it on my skin.At time of writing this Review, the RRP is £7.99. I think this is fairly reasonable, as from my experience, although there is only a small container of the product, a little went a long way.
