This reel is great for the price. It handles a range of fishing well. I have landed some big carp with it. The bait runner is smooth and the parts hold together really well. The only negative is that the clutch adjustment isn’t great. Overall I would recommend to anyone hitting the bank and landing those big fish.

This is a really nice reel, smooth light weight and easy to handle and looks good and was excellent value.

I've always been a mitchell user and have many mitchell reels of various models that are my prides of joy and are faultless . Unfortunately this model does seem to have issues , nothing wrong with the overall quality and I must say it's a lovely looking reel that's perfect for barbel fishing in the 4000 size . Anyway now to the reason I returned it and won't be getting a replacement , upon arrival everything seemed superb until I tested the free spool ( bait runner ) system and found it to be not working at all . The free spool lever sprang forwards as expected but that's all that worked in that department because it had utterly no effect on giving me a free spool effect . I had noticed other people in reviews have had the same problem so I can only say it's a design fault etc and is pot luck if you receive a working one. To be honest it's the first mitchell I'd say avoid as it's the only one that's ever been faulty I've bought , I do also own two of the mx1 black carp edition reels and those are utterly flawless in every way (5500 size ) , make just as good barbel reels and are half the cost . By all means take the chance if your determined because returning a faulty reel is simplicity itself, but for my money in sticking to the cheaper black carp editions as the mx2 certainly isn't an upgrade in my eyes .Sorry mitchell but it had to be said for the record .

Unfortunately this reel was faulty, the bait runner mode did not work, I had expected more from a Mitchell reel as I have 2 others that I have had since 2004 and the quality of them is superb and I still use them without fault, unfortunately the quality of this reel was not up to scratch I returned for a full refund it's such a shame

Is there a design fault?Everytime I cast out the line catches on the side line clip and snaps.Gone back to using my 30 year old diawa reel.
