Well made but limited functions
This is a well made product, easy to fit and works very well. Like other reviewers, I must also emphasize the need to read about it carefully prior to purchase. There is no average speed or journey time. It does tell you time, current speed, trip distance and total distance in either miles or kilometres. One criticism is that the face does reflect the light and so getting the angle right so you can read the display is important.

Good value, but not so good overall
This Velo 5 is actually quite good value, BUT it's not so good else where.Let's jump right into it with the Pros and consCon 1: Waterproofing, Now to me it looks waterproof, but i have not read anywhere in the instructions, packaging, online, etc that it is Waterproof, in the instructions it does mention a List of possible errors that can occur when Wet, Such as "speedometer suddenly reads 0" I have NOT used it in the wet, the Actual Cycle Computer part is waterproof; however, the actual Magnet and sensor i think otherwise. It even states in the Instructions that it is advised you apply non-liquid lubricants on the sensor to help against water, though it does not have any "long term/complete failures" when wet, it'll just have to dry out.Con 2: Instructions. It states it is a " 1 button speedometer" but actually, there Is two -- One on the front, and one on the upper right back part of the Speedometer, a TINY TINY button (which requires a pin to press) Completely stupid and you need to use this button to adjust things like, MPH/KPH and Clock, etc, completely inconvenient and a overall lie of product. The instructions received for this product was also HUGE, the size of a car glovebox map. -- Stupidly, the instruction manual consisted of the Velo 5 and Velo 8 (No idea why it had the other Velo cycle computer in with THIS instructions) and it All this information in 5+ Languages, which makes it Incredibly hard to find the bit you want to know, very frustrating.Con 3: Settings -- Overall it has FEW functions. (Clock, distance, Max speed, Odometer and current speed) Where-as you can get a Challenge cycle computer Which IS waterproof and has 2 more functions than that. And THAT computer only costs £10.00) Cheaper than this, which leads me to suggest that the money did not all go into functionality or weatherproofing. Now, lets move onto the prosPro 1: Ease Of setup - Now despite that stupid Second small button, and the huge instructions, it DID come with a Tyre calibration chart inside the instruction manual, which was easier than having to work out the circumference & wheel diameter yourself Like you WOULD have to do with the £10.00 Challenge Speedometer.Pro 2: The senor and Magnet. Now, despite the sensor being not exactly watertight, it does have a fair sized sensor with a Powerful magnet, Which to put together creates a Huge amount of adjustment between the Magnet on the Spoke and the Sensor on the Fork, so it does Not matter if you are on a road bike or a MTB, this will fit your forks.pro 3: Aesthetics. The Cycle Computer has a small clear plastic case over the screen, beneath that lies a Grey outline with black stripes, which are next to the actual screen. It also has "CAT EYE" in big white letters on the top of the cycle computer. (Not seen on picture)And that's really about it.If i'm honest, its frustrating instructions, lack of function, and apparent lack of weatherproofing, does make for grim reading.Especially when you hear that you can get Other cycle computers that Literally do More -- for less, the only reason this cycle computer costs what it does is because Cat-Eye Can do that. When you've got it set up, it very good. Beautiful, but the second it starts raining, you'll be panicking, and the lack of functions such as Avg speed and trip time, are quite important.Would i recommend this product? No. This is the borderline between Cheap Speedometers and Expensive ones. It's more expensive, but worse than a cheap one.

They do their job.
Excellent, as a basic speedometer they are perfect. Shame your bloody computer won't let me buy any more.

It works, but horribly-designed RESET button.
Nice, cheap cycle computer with just the basics to see you through. It's all I needed as all my really useful info is recorded on my phone's app. I found that the default 700mm wheel setting gave a very-slightly slower reading than the GPS on my phone and after a 40 mile ride, the odometer displayed1 mile less than my phone. A quick tweak to the setting sorted this out, mind. Speaking of settings...The button on the back of the unit is a very soft, wobbly, rubber button, slightly set into the unit. It is VERY easily pushed too far down. I pushed my first one in straight away and had to send it back. Knowing this, I was careful with the second one and STILL mamanged to do it again. Only this time I managed to pop it back out. I know it was cheap, but this should be a really easy thing to put right, surely? The main button on the front of the unit is nice and sturdy and feels like it can take a lot of presses.Apart from the reset button, it has worked flawlessly and the display is nice and clear.

Lacking obvious features
This product's description is entirely correct but I made the mistake of assuming it would have several features it lacks. Just in case anyone else is expecting the same I thought I'd write a review.- It doesn't have a stopwatch function, it does record distance and speed but has no way of tracking how long you've been pedalling. Also means no average speed etc output.- The cable is only long enough for the sensor to be attached to the front wheel, so if you're planning on using it with a turbo trainer where the front wheel won't rotate then you need to look elsewhere.Having said that it does the job of a basic cycle computer very well - tells you current speed and total distance.

A great little computer with all the basics on it
A great little computer with all the basics on it. a good starter model for a leisure riderat a fair price if you think that you need more bells and whistles go for a higher spec at a much higher pricea good basic computer for the leisure cyclist at a fair price, but if you think that you need more bells and whistles go for a higher spec at a much higher price. It fits easily and calibrated ok it gives me 9.99 miles for a ride logged by the car as 10milesand thats good enough for me !

Poor basic Cycle computer!! could be better
This is a basic cycle computer, It reads speed, distance, overall distance travelled. time taken, ride trip distance. and max speed. There is no interference from LED lights as this computer is wired, the downside is routing the cable, and keeping it tidy. The display is easy enough to read and operate while riding, even though the unit is very compact, It is easy to install, looks smart and should fit most bikes easily. The Down Side is that after washing the bike the unit stopped working!!!After a while I checked the Unit, which works by shorting the two electrical pins on the underside, the unit is OK, I tested the sensor also works by putting a resistance meter on the bracket connectors and rolling the wheel magnet past the sensor, I was able to determine the sensor was working correctly, meaning the bracket and unit are not making a good electrical contact, The bracket has poor contact size, and the pins on the unit have insufficient spring in them to make a good firm contact. cleaning both and adding contact lube helps. but am going to try an heavy duty bracket to see if it can save this computer from the recycle bin!
