good sound, quality and longevity
My daughter has now been using this for a year and has learned how to play the piano. No previous experience.Wasn't sure if it was too much fir beginner, but after evaluating the only slightly cheaper keyboards aimed at beginners we got this one. The keys feel real enough - some weighting, and the features are immense. She experiments with the alternate sounds when playing now and its a joy to hear.I expect this will take her from 7 yrs old beginner to whenever, can’t foresee there being a need to buy anything else.Bought a stand a for this keyboard and a seat - it look professional in corner of living room.

What you get and how it compares
Yamaha V Casio on the lower cost end of the market keyboards. Both have multi voices, built in songs and accompaniments, can be plugged into amplifiers for stage use, (they do have their own speakers), and but you need 2 channels for each keyboard as they are stereo, and a splitter lead. There are many comparisons in the market to the Yamaha keyboard. I have both. The Yamaha does not have quite the same tone depth as the Casio also the keys on a Yamaha are more like an organ but a Casio is like playing a piano with weighted keys. The Yamaha settings do not change when you turn it off so all your preset volumes remain the same Casio resets all those. This means the background rhythms, which are far too loud, have to be reset every time it is switched on. Over all I prefer the Yamaha rhythms because they are better for doing a performance but I prefer the sound of the Casio. I suppose that's why I have bought both, and stacked them. If your looking solely for a piano for home use the Casio would be my first choice. The Casio is slim, smart and it is easy to learn to use. Needs a stand for it. 30 years ago a Vox pianos was more expensive and no way near as good.

Fine for what it is.
I purchased the Casio CDP-230 mainly because it is light and therefore far more portable than some of the more impressive sounding (and more expensive) keyboards. Its lightness is due to the fact that it does not contain a heavy amplifier. If you are simply practising in a small room or you are using headphones, the sound will be adequate and the touch of the instrument combined with its many features, will suit you well. But my experience when you play it through an external amplifier (needed for theatre work) is that it is quite tinny. Now that is just one theatre, maybe it is the amplification which is at fault, but playing Yamaha keyboards through the same system was always a more satisfying experience. So fine for a small room, but look elsewhere for more power.

We chose a real keyboard over a gimmick- eventually : ) .
Bought this as a replacement of Yamaha EW400. The keyboard is very nice unlike the Yamaha and the sounds are just fine. We are very happy with this product which is actually very compact well labelled and easy to use. Havent tried all the features yet, cant get a my turn on it!

It's pretty good, though I have nothing to compare it too, and feel I can hear that more expensive ones might sound a little bit more real but seems good enough for learning

Broken
Xmas present, unboxed to find it broken, as I’d saved a few quid buying on Black Friday if I returned it I’d have to buy at full price so was left with no choice but to return it to Casio, been out the box for 1 minute! great

I think it has more than enough functions for us to enjoy some playtime after work
Bought this one for my girlfriend, I think it has more than enough functions for us to enjoy some playtime after work. Good value for the price, I enjoy the built-in songs a lot. However you do need to purchase the stand and the chair separately.
